I know there was a tattoo thread in here like a week ago I couldn't find it if someone could link to it that would be great.
Or more specifically I am looking to get my first tattoo a few hours from now. What medical type stuff should I be on the look out for at the shop. The do's and Don'ts if you will?
i think he means are there any tell-tale signs that the shop isn't kept up right?
if you are going to a good establishment, i bet that the health code people are there to inspect them regularly, i'd think you'll be fine

DO make sure the parlor is certified and is displaying its certificates from the health inspector prominently
DO ask any friends you have that have had tattoos where the best place is in town
DO make sure you don't skimp out on price...remember, you get what you pay for
DO make your first tattoo in a place both easy to see and easy to reach
DON'T make your first tattoo on a joint or a bone
DO make your first tattoo on a fat-heavy location (the upper arm is a great place to get a tattoo)
DO use whatever tattoo care-taking procedures the parlor reccommends to you
DO buy some A + D Ointment (not the cream, the ointment) or Tattoo Goo to take care of it after you get it
DON'T rub or scratch your tattoo after you get it, the most you can do is pat the itch
DO make sure to remove any dead skin from the tattoo pretty frequently

There's other types than Tattoo Goo/A + D Ointment, but they're my two personal faves
Shop around a little bit first, there's a lot of tattoo aftercare products and see which one you like best...whatever you get though, get a lot of it, it lessens itching and you want to keep the fucker constantly moist
Also, you're in the military as well, right limp moose? Remember that it's going to be painful as fuck doing PT on that location for a little while, when I got my back tat I could barely do situps for a coupla weeks
Oh yeah I remembered another one...DON'T make your first tattoo a huge one, you won't know your reaction to the needle and it takes forever and a half if it's huge
I don't mean to derail the thread, but I plan on getting a tattoo during spring quarter. How does one tip after getting their tattoo done?
Thanks
I'm a big tipper but that's me personally
I'd gauge it based on how well of a job your artist does and how quick s/he is
For me I tipped 70 on a 230 dollar tattoo
