NEW PC! Sorta...

A couple of you may have read the getting a pc thread I posted awhile back. Whelp, I got one, but I didn't build it via newegg.com as planned. A friend of a friend was selling one he had built awhile back, and didn't need any more.

The price was a little more than a third of what I was planning to spend, 275 vs. 650. But it looks to be a pretty solid deal, considering what I was looking to get appears only slightly better than this one. Which brings us to the point:

Intel Core2 CPU 6600 @ 2.4 GHz
2 GB RAM
160 GB HD
GeForce 8600 GT

Appears to be fairly solid for a gaming PC. But I'm just curious on your opinions, what kind of limitations to expect. The computer is mine now, so if I got shafted on the deal, too late anyways. I do know that it's a huge upgrade from my old box.

it's a good computer. I've been using A Core 2 Duo E6600 since they first came out and it's still an extremely solid/fast CPU

You're really only limited by the GPU but it's not that old/slow

    A second opinion agrees.

Not a bad deal, but it looks like you've kind of limited your upgrade options.

    edit: wait, maybe not.

Awesome. Leaves me rather broke until next paycheck, but it was a good opportunity.

Was on a 1.3 gig, 256 RAM, geforce 3 for about eight years. Paid 1800 at the time for it. You live, you learn.

I have an 8600 GT as well. While it's really nothing spectacular, a lot of stuff looks really pretty, like the FEAR 2 demo, and I can play all source games on full settings, which is good :D

I agree, it's a decent PC. In the future, a simple videocard upgrade will keep it viable for some time.

Only thing i could see is 160gb hd is pretty tiny. But i guess that all depends on what you do with your PC. It definitely looks like it was a good deal though for 275. That video card is pretty far behind the bar though.

160GB is plenty unless you have a bad habit of storing movies.

Put the OS on, a few games, and your collection of mp3's and you'll still have plenty left over for incidental usage.

Yeah, that's pretty damn good for the price. It should hold out until DX11 releases in a year or so (when you'll want to nab a new video card).

Anyone notice how some things (mattresses and the copy machines in Highrise) are totally impenetrable? A steel wall, yeah that makes sense, but bullets should obliterate copy machines.

I don't know about you, but I always buy a bullet proof printer. Its a lot more expensive, but I think the advantages are apparent.

The size of the HD shouldn't be much of an issue. My old HD was still running strong when the fan on the PC died, so I could always plug it into this one for the extra storage if I want it. Really though, there was about 30 gigs taken up by my g/f's MP3s.

She has her own computer now.
