Noby Noby Hitting PSN on February 19th -- So Awesome
So ... Nobi Nobi from the creators of Kamamari Decency. Going to cost 5 bucks.
The game is an insta purchase for me just based on the hilarity of the screens I've seen so far. Apparently there is some sort of persistant MMO concept as well ... "GIRL" Noby grows depending on the efforts of all players playing the game. GIRL Noby eventually leaves earth, the solarsystem to unlock new levels based on the combined efforts of all players:
Seriously ... Only 5 bucks!!!!!

Oh, awesome, this is so much smarter than a full retail release. For a measly $5, this is an unquestionable purchase. I somehow doubt that this game will bring more than a few hours of laughs and confusion, but that is easily justified by its low, low price.
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

Hopefully this game will give me a reason to stop hating Namco for not releasing Beautiful Katamari on the PS3.
Bastards.

Garry: I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time I'd rather not spend the rest of the winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!
Having played Katamari and loved it I have to say I don't see what the fuss is about. It's the same sort of gameplay with the same style in a smaller, less interesting world. I don't hate it but I wouldn't call it awesome either. However it is right at that perfect threshold where I think I would buy it for $5.
I could see someone calling it amazing if they had never experienced Katamari before.

Same sort of gameplay? Really? I think that might be going a little to far. It does share a lot of the unique visual style from the Katamari games, but it's not like a remix or something. It's its own idea. It reminds me more of the snake game than Katamari.
I think a lot of people are excited because just looking at the pictures feels like a breath of fresh air. Or maybe that's just me.

I just think there are other interesting concepts out there besides "consume things that aren't normally consumed in order to grow larger," that's all.
to me it seems like this is nothing but a techdemo.
it gets released in this state for 5 bucks means its been cancelled and they are trying to earn some money back by trying this new form of release.
of course, we all have bought stuff for 5 bucks there were a lot less then this game, im just saying.

I think they're putting it out to see if it sells like Katamari and if it does (it probably won't, Katamari was a huge anomaly) they'll try to do the same thing with sequels. Probably have a full console release.

I know what you mean. I think it really is more of a 3D remake of the classic snake game. But eh. I'll still be there day one. The visual awesome is what sets it apart from other games, and boy howdy does it ever.

yeah, but that doesnt challenge my assumption that this isnt more then a techdemo.
but of coruse, dont we leave in exciting times? a few years back this would have just been canned and we never even would have heard of it at all.

The aspect where new levels are opened up by the global playerbase is what seems really cool to me--it seems like that could be something really taken somewhere in different sorts of games as well.

I know, I wasn't arguing. I think the idea could be more fleshed out, however I am also hesitant to call anything a tech demo without having tried it. You could call Crayon Physics a tech demo, or you could call it awesome. We'll see.
And I do think it is neat that ideas like this can survive...except this idea is only a survivor because its creator, like Will Wright, miraculously released something gold and has been given free reign ever since. There's so much more we'll never see.
The real proof here is how fun it is. If it's a neat distraction for only a day or two (a tech demo), or if it can deliver a quality, focused experience that keep you coming back (or, better yet, wanting more). Even if it uses the same underlying them of eating things to get bigger/longer, if it's a fun game more power to them.
IIRC, eating everything actually impedes your "progress", as growing fat means you can't grow as long. I have no idea what kind of implications this has within the game, but I assume you have to balance eating and stretching in order to attain a maximum length in any given world.

Am I the only one who sees a giant wang in the last picture?
Hope the music is good.

I find myself coming back to PSN titles alot more than XBLA (with the exception of stellar titles like Catan and Pac Man Championship Edition).
Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
Bastards.
I recall reading something about eating things to make yourself longer.

I had a mental flash of myself driving my Focus to work and then all of the sudden everything ending in a rainbow flash as the red maw opens up.
I could see someone calling it amazing if they had never experienced Katamari before.

Just doesn't seem too different, yet. Still, I would buy it for $5 if I had a PS3.
