CFLs behaving oddly

So I got a packet of 6 CFLs at Costco the other day, and they're behaving oddly, I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong.

2 of them are plugged into my roommate's ceiling lights, and work fine.
1 is plugged into the hallway ceiling light, and works fine.

Now come to kooky bulbs:
1 is plugged into a lamp in my room. It worked fine last night, but now doesn't seem to want to turn on. When I turn it on, part of it glows ever so faintly, then it does.
1 just plain doesn't seem to work.
1 is a fricking strobe light.

So my question is, am I doing something wrong? I'm not using any dimmers, just regular lights. Or did I just get a defective batch from Costco?

well, have you tried using different bulbs in different sockets?

Try swapping bulbs that are working where they are with bulbs that aren't. If the behaviour persists in both sockets, IE, the working socket still works and the strobe light still flashes, your wiring is messed up. If the problems travel, you have defective bulbs.

Many CFL's wont work with any light equipped with a dimmer switch. They'll either flicker or just throw a tantrum and refuse to work.

Tried using bulbs elsewhere, with the same result. Guess I just got a defective batch. Or somebody else dropped this package. Cool, I'll just exchange them next weekend, problem solved.

Contact the manufacturer directly. They will usually hook you up with free bulbs and/or additional recompense.
