Spilled coffee inside computer...

Actually my roommate did. I have a fan on the top of my case which is there to improve air flow, in addition to allowing clumsy roommates to spill hot beverages directly onto my electronics.

Anyway, I was asleep when this happened so I only so the aftermath in the morning. The computer was still running at that point. They had cleaned up the spill immediately, turned off the computer, opened the case and put a fan on it. Later I'm at work and I get a voicemail telling me that the computer froze up while someone was playing a game on it and was very hot.

When I get home I take most everything out and got at it with a q-tip and alcohol. The video card and the ide cables caught the most of it. I didn't see anything on the power supply, ram, processor or motherboard. I didn't take the motherboard out though.

So its working again, though I haven't tried a game yet to see how that goes. There is one problem I'm having though. The computer automatically powers on when I flip the switch on the power supply. It won't turn off until I turn that switch off again. The power and reboot button don't do anything.

When I cleaned it I didn't unplug the cables running from the case power button and reset button, and I checked and they are still where they should be. They're in a very hard to get to spot but I didn't see any coffee dried on them. But I guess that is the only thing it could be.

I only see this as a minor problem since I turn off my computer maybe once a year. Does anyone see this doing lasting damage? Should I shut it off immediately and clean those little cables off? Any other advice?

But, if you are after mere parlor tricks, you will be sorely disappointed. For if I reach behind your ear, it will not be a nickel I pull out, but your very soul!

I can see never turning your computer off as doing lasting damage.

So thats why all the servers in the world must be replaced every 6 months!

I'd check the ATX plug (from the PSU to the motherboard)... I think (grounding?) the green wire turns the PSU on, so there might be a short there that is causing this behaviour.

Make sure there's no liquid residue near where you plug in your case buttons.

I personally would spend the couple hours to take the whole thing apart and clean out that case and every component that may have gotten splashed.
