I'm going there on my honeymoon in a week and a half, and I'd like to not get butt-raped on our food bill. We've checked out the pricing for the buffets obviously, and 10$ isn't bad for a buffet meal that's probably great. With two people we're talking 60 a day just for food, and I'd like to cut that down a bit if I can. Tell me where I can find cheap food that's decent.
If you are off strip. Just go to a super market and get snacks / premaid lunches to eat during the day.
My advice is to eat a massive buffet breakfast and skip lunch altogether. Eat an early dinner and you will be good. Between the drinking and partying and sexing going on after dinner. You won't get hungry again.
Yeah, we're staying on the strip but I think we're going to find a market and buy stuff to make meals. I imagine we will be sleeping in till at least 9 or 10 most days, so the massive breakfast would work.
Circus circus and excalibur have 10$ buffets, but does anyone know if they are good, and if not where's a good place to go that's not super expensive?
We stayed at the Riviera and the buffet was okay. Can't remember how much it was. But then we went to Treasure Island and their buffet was like $25 and a million times better. Sushi, fresh pasta, venison. Lots of choice. It's never going to win a michelin star but it was well worth $25.
I can't recommend Ellis Island enough for breakfast. I went with my parents last May and we ate there every morning. The specialty is steak and eggs for like $2.95. With that meal you get 2 pieces of toast, 2 eggs, a very large helping of home fries (? flat round friend potatoes) and a sirloin steak. I thought it was good. The steak isn't anything special, but then again, we're not huge food snobs or anything.
Where are you staying? I mean, if you're staying at New York, you aren't going to take a quick jaunt down to Circus Circus.
My favorite buffet was at the Aladdin... but it's gone now. Just steer clear of the Bellagio, unless you want to spend like, 40 bucks a person on breakfast.
(but it was really good, I admit)

'Fuck yeah, me too. What little kid ever pretended to be part of the lynch-mob?'
We're actually staying at circus circus, ended up getting 6 nights there for around 550 including fri/sat/sun nights and it was the best deal we could find.
Thanks for the tip about ellis island, I'm going to look it up and see where it's at compared to our hotel.
Edit: Just over a mile away, this is looking like a great breakfast place.
When I was 13 my family and I went to Vegas. We stayed at Circus Circus, they bought me a bunch of all day passes for the little amusement park attached to the side of the hotel. Laser-tag was listed as an attraction that they all day pass was good for. So I played laser tag all day, and by the end of the vacation I knew the workers on a first name basis.
I am now 25 and haven't played Laser Tag again since that week.
I stayed at Circus Circus a couple weeks ago, and the buffet is definitely worth what you pay for it. The food is decent, not stellar, but more than good enough if you're just going to load up to keep you running all day.
Okay, here is a great tip if you like poker and are not terrible at it.
A lot of places have deals where you get huge discounts on rooms and cheap/free buffet tickets if you play poker or something two hours or so a day. We do this everytime we go up, saves a lot of money.
Now, I understand this is a honeymoon and that might not be viable. Normally the guys will just play for a short bit at night and in the morning. Since you are on a honeymoon this might not be an option, unless your significant other wants to play with you.
It is funny because most people are already planning on gambling, but this way you garantee you will gamble with them and they usually offer benifits for that. It is never advertised, you have to ask and negotiate.

Whatever you do, enjoy your honeymoon!
Could you be a little more specific about the places? I play poker and am headed to Vegas soon.
OP: The issue with your budget is you aren't going to eat three vegas buffets a day. You'll probably have one buffet meal and then two lighter ones.
But, yeah, Vegas is Vegas, they will get you to spend the money somehow!
Not sure if you're going to get out of the city and do some hiking or climbing (Near Vegas theres some surprisingly cool spots) but if you are, one way to save some money on food is simply getting some fruit and vegetables and taking them with you and having a picnic out in the rocks and small mountains and stuff. Similarly depending on where your staying if you have a mini fridge you can get yourself fruit and vegetables from the grocery store and keep them as cheap snacks instead of going to a restaurant or other higher priced place every time youre hungry.
I loved Vegas. The streets were littered with pornography and the air smelt of sex and lies. Awesome food there, we went to a bufet at the Bellagio after a magic show, well worth it but certainly expensive.
Otherwise, let me brag and mention we stayed at Ceasar's palace for a lower price because the reason we went there was my mom's business trip. So awesome.
Edit: The Hoover Dam is a pretty amazing sight. I recommend it if it's in your schedule.

I forgot to mention this earlier, but this so true. We rented a car and drove out there one day and it was amazing and just a really neat thing that I'm glad I saw in my life time.
We also drove the grand canyon west, which was a terrible terrible experience. Don't go there unless you want to spend $125 a person to see it.
Planet Hollywood has an awesome buffet. It's $25 but worth it. It's divided into section from all different cuisines (Mexican, American, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Seafood, etc) and it was all top notch. Their prime rib is as good or better than most steakhouses. Their seafood was fresh. They also had a nice variety and some atypical items from each cuisine.
There's also an In-N-Out Burger not far from the strip. This might be a treat if you've never been to one before. Last time I went it was for my buddy's bachelor party and he loved (but he's from Chicago and never been there before). Check out the secret menu on the web before you go (I like mine 2x2 Animal Style)
