ESPN Presents the John Madden Retirement Party (featuring Brett Favre)
Packer fan, watched the game for the commercials. No vested interest in either team. Don't think I'm biased, but god damn that was a horribly-called game.
The only bad call all game was the personal foul for running over the kicker IMO.

Nah, it wasn't really that awful. There were a few bad calls but none that really changed the outcome of the game.
The Steelers earned this one, as much as it pains me to say it. This win certainly bothers me a lot less then Super Bowl XL, which was seriously the worst officiated game I've ever seen.
The only call that really bothered me was a defensive holding call they made in the 3rd on a crossing pattern.
The cards safety got three fingers on a jersy, didn't even break the receivers stride, and they call a 5 yard automatic first down on what I think was a 3rd and long.
But really, I am not going to say this is the refs fault completely. The cardinals played badly on defense and special teams. How many muffed kick returns did they have? At least 2 and almost 3 when the punt returner got destroyed for not calling fair catch, unacceptable in the big game. Or how about the three personal fouls in a single drive.

what about that awful roughing the passer call on Karlos Dansby?
the one where he pushed big ben to the ground after he had already thrown the ball away? isn't that pretty much the definition of roughing the passer
you realize that in real life the defender is seeing things in slo-mo like in replays right? He got there a split second late and Rothlesberger is so fucking huge that you have to run through him otherwise he won't go down.
The rotp on Rothlesberger looked really bad in slow motion, but when you see it in game speed it's all, "What, that?" I don't think it's a horrible call, and not the worst of the night, but it shouldn't have been thrown.
I wish I had remembered to Tivo the game, but I remembered watching the replay of it and seeing that he had more than a split second (i could be wrong), it still wasnt the worst roughing call ive seen this year
I thought the big difference between that one, and the roughing the holder call on the same drive was that the guy who roughed the holder tripped on his way to block the kick so stopping his momentum or redirecting would have been much more difficult (or impossible) compared to the hit on big ben, when he definitely had time to ease off (he would have probably still hit him, but pushing him to the ground was excessive). I wouldn't have flagged the former, and I think it was a bad call.
Seriously, i don't know how you can try and put anything on the refs compared of some of the awful games they have had this year, and hell the last steelers superbowl.
Also Brett Favre is done, seriously. I want him to go away now.
I was sad when he left. I was annoyed when he came back, and now I am angry that it turns out he was a douche about the whole thing.
Aaron Rodgers is awesome. Packers just need to worry about injuries. If we can stay healthy next year, we will go far.
And fix our o-line.
Well that will probably be our first round pick (unless there is some really awesome CB up for grabs, Harris is getting old).
Luckily we have a good pick. Woo.
We have depth in our secondary (if they stay healthy). Our o-line is pathetically shallow. We can't keep bringing in new guys and expect them to be able to work as a team and keep Rodgers safe.

You can't say a game was called well because other games were called worse.
The refs let the Steelers' offensive line get away with murder.
This superbowl reminded me a lot of the Panthers' run... completely boring for the first 25 minutes, then OMG POINTS EXPLOSION.... then silent for another 25, then more madness.
It seems to be happening more and more in these recent years.
seeing the cardinals go no huddle in the fourth and doing awesome, i'm still mystified why they didn't do that for like the whole damn game. warner was thriving in that, and that really made fitzgerald into a factor. don't know why they didn't try it sooner.

It seemed to me that for some reason they really thought that they could get a running game going. Against the Steelers.
Their first two drives they ran a lot of running plays.
Then they went to the screens and slants which were OK but not enough to come from behind.

i guess they had to give it a shot, but c'mon, your best dudes are your receivers, just let it rip for like 75% of the plays and fuck it all. not even long bombs, since the safeties were way deep most of the game, but like the quick slants and dump offs and whatnot.
though i did like the steelers strategy of putting polamalu at the line on fitzgerald and bumping and roughing him hard a lot of times.. i thought the dbacks mugging the receivers were outlawed after the pats abused it in one superbowl

If you truly believe that, you were not watching Super Bowl XLIII.

thats got called, it just didnt matter because the ball was already at the 1 yard line.
He should have been ejected though

look at that he had like a minute and a half to pull up and not hit the quarterback oh my god how awful!

I did nod off during the first half though.
