I assume that I really need to update my BIOS - the problem is that I'm using an HP PC. The only part in it that actually came from HP is the motherboard, which is a M2P61PM-HM. Apparently.
I can't find any information on this, but my issue stems from my OS. The drivers from HP are all intended for Windows Vista with limited XP support through google-fu.
HP says that the BIOS update is for Vista, but does it matter if I'm using XP?
I think I was on the wrong track and am just dumb. I'm looking for the Chipset drivers I suppose? I haven't installed any additional support for my motherboard and am hoping that maybe if I stumble upon some proper drivers I can eke some extra performance out of my rig.
Your HP pre-built computer came with those already installed, and they don't get updates too often.
You want to eke some extra performance out of your rig? Disable some background processes and services.
Already optimized the dick out of my Windows install. I was just curious if chipset drivers are OS-sensitive or if that's just HP being fuckdicks.
The rig also didn't come from HP. It was a demo model with a dead motherboard that had to be replaced under warranty and I told the techs to just give me the PC as soon as the hardware was installed.

edit: last link is broken so I hope it wasn't important, took it out.
Hope this helps.
Thank you, sir. I just wanted to make extra sure I was getting the correct stuff. Nvidia driver's a few months old though, haha.
