I have been following the tattoo dudes instructions. However yesterday due to work I was unable to apply the lotion goo every 4 hours. I had about an 8 hour period with no lotion then put it on when I got home. And again before bed.
Well I woke up this morning and it was all peely / flakey. I put some lotion on it and as I was applying the lotion some of the flakes came off. One flake about a quarter of an inch big maybe like half the size of a dime. Flaked off and was all color the skin under the flake is no longer as dark in color and kind of red. Is this normal?
Or did a big chunk of color just fall off? The tattoo dude told me it would peel like a sunburn and it is but normally sunburn peel doesnt take color with it like this is.
If you don't take care of the tattoo while it's healing, and it cracks, it can have light spots. Just FYI. This is all second hand information since I don't have a tattoo myself.

not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me
Yeah, you're just in the normal process for healing. The reason sunburns don't have colour in them is, well, there's no ink in your skin with a sunburn. :P
Just don't scratch or pick, keep up the cream regime, and you should be fine.

Looking for a DX:HR OnLive code for my kid brother.
Can trade TF2 items or whatever else you're interested in. PM me.
Also, a lot of tattoo places... or at least some... will allow you to come in for free touch ups within like, a year of getting the tattoo. You should call your place a find out.

I plan on going back for another tat next month so I am sure he can touch it up for me. I was more just worried about having big spots of flesh in the colored parts of this one.
This is just the normal tattoo healing process. If it does take parts of color out, then like Sentry stated, you can have it touched up. Personally, I wouldn't put lotion on every 4 hours because it can clog up your skin pores and you may form some red spots. For myself, if I put on that much lotion, it begins to irritate the area too much so I normally only put it on after my morning shower and before heading to bed.
My artist told me to use Aquaphor (i think that's how to spell it) once a day ONLY. that's more of an ointment however. mine healed up extremely quickly, but it was a touchup and therefore not as deep as a fresh tattoo would be. but yeah, don't be constantly rubbing lotion onto it, it wont help.

Aquafor is what I generally utilize as well, but only a very thin layer of it because it's quite oily.
its normal. somepeople heal take ink better than others. if the artist is worth his salt, he will touch up for free.
every 4 hours isn;t crazy. you want to have it slightly moist for a while, but you definitely want a nice thin coat. if you are breaking out you can switch to a lighter moisturizer
