Getting to an external drive through FTP

Hi, I've got a Intel MacMini and an external hard drive that is connected to it through firewire. I have my Mac's hard drive set up as a FTP server. That works fine, but what I really need to access to the external drive. How might I set that up? I've tried making Alias (basically shortcuts) and a few other ideas, but none have worked. Any ideas would be most welcomed. Thank you for your time.

There's a knowledge base article on sharing volumes that aren't in the 'home' directory through samba, you might try the steps they lay out.

I hate to sound lazy, but could you link the article? I can't seem to find it.
