Well I would imagine he'll probably lose some of his sponsorships, stuff like that. He probably won't be punished by the league at all but hey, the all time home run king is a cheater. The heir apparent might as well be one too.
there are only 2 people who i would legitimately be sad to learn juiced: pedro and griffey

McGuire is the biggest disappointment to me because if he were to actually train for it he probably could have gotten that big. He always had the frame for that amount of muscle unlike Bonds who looks ridiculous.
what about Phelps, who got probation for 3 months because *gasp* there's a picture of him smoking marijuana
I mean, 3 months? It's not exactly considered a performance-enhancing drug. I could see it being a big deal around competition time when it could definitely make a difference, but as far as I know he wasn't doing much else but training

They did the same thing to another swimmer when they found weed on him. I think it might have been Ian Crocker. He got a 3 month suspension as well.
Maybe it wasn't Crocker...I'm too lazy to look it up.

My reaction to this whole Phelps thing?
"So, what?"
There's been a huge number of people smoking pot ever since the 60s. This is not news.

They gave him a 3 month suspension when there is no competition. It's basically not a punishment. It's just their way of saying they did something about it.
I can understand why his sponsors etc. are making a deal about it. Kids look up to Phelps because he is an amazing athelete and a good role model. You don't want kids to see that it is ok to do drugs. P
ersonally, I don't give a shit and I'm glad to see that some of his sponsors either. They said "Look, Mike knows he made a mistake and was honest about it to us and to the public. The fact he was willing to own up to his mistakes and move forward from them is good enough for us." Now if only the media would move on from it as well.

A sponsor or two are planning on dropping him, but nothing more than a wag of a finger, really.

yeah I know, it's ridiculous
but I guess his punishment could have been much worse

but see I don't think it was a mistake, as long as you aren't under the effects of marijuana when it matters (i.e. training and competition) you should be allowed to smoke marijuana as much as you want

Provided the Olympic committee or World Anti-Doping Agency doesn't slap him with the four-year-ban.

Which they won't.
That would be setting a major precedent. I'm positive that other Olympic Athletes smoke marijuana.

Anyway I figured we could use this to talk about other baseball matters as well, such as how the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets represent the pinnacle of failure.
Oh, I'm sorry, has he been found guilty then?
Its the same thing with Bonds' steroid tests. They have tests but have no way of proving they're Bonds' tests so they're going to get thrown out.
I think these sources are anonymous for a reason, and everyone just wants to shit on A-Rod. What else is new.
Anyway, personally, I don't care too much about steroids anymore. It was cheating, but since a lot of people if not everyone was doing it, it kind of evens the playing field a bit. Just let bygones be bygones now that the era is over and let those people into the hall.

Yeah there's no anti-doping violation involved first off, secondly he only admitted to using a bong and never admitted to smoking marijuana.

I'm not really a big fan. Baseball's kind of boring. But I mean, why persecute the players when the commissioner was such a clueless douchebag for so long? Or rather looked the other way because profits were growing.

How could this possibly fucking surprise you, Butters?

he tested in 2003 when there was no consequence
and he has mad money then and now
that just means you're a normal, good person
nope
depends who those other 103 names are
the more big name guys get exposed, the more likely one gets in, which will open the doors for all of them
it's easy now because it's just mcgwire
Of course, it turned out that he was a cheater too. No wonder I stopped watching baseball.
oh god, don't even talk about the possibility of griffey juicing
that would literally crush my soul.
Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the outcome.
I'm not really happy the guy cheated, not like I was with Clemens. I was ecstatic about that news for weeks.
There are plenty of players who aren't for fear of the side effects and more importantly all the guys that set records decades ago were never on it.

Fortytwo's blog about fatherhood, life, and everything.
Thats not what the law says.
The 2003 random survey that tested it only found 8.7% of players had banned substances in them.
That is far from everyone.

It wouldn't help us at all, but damn, that guy pretty much built Safeco and kept baseball in Seattle. He has always been a Mariner to me.
