since i never bought any of the expansions, can you still play with people that only have vanilla or is the community that fragmented?

I found the 1.50 patch at least, but are they cumulative or will i need to install 1.25 and 1.40 or whatever first?

Not that it matters because the download server is, well... down.

I think you'll still be able to play with them, just not on the new maps. I don't think those are that widely played anyway.

You just need the 1.50 patch. All 500MB+ of it.

1.50 is all you need (500+MB). At least when I installed Deluxe Edition I've had no problems.

    Also: OP updated with names.

PB kept kicking me, too, in Battlefield 2. If you update your PB it should be fine.

Started setting up 1942 and FH again, i had totaly forgotten how polished FH really is in so many ways. Ecspecially when the installer asked me if i wanted to listen to music and started playing the FH theme. Wich reminds me how stupid i thought it was that they removed elk hunt from the loading screen. While the theme is good, elk hunt just sounded so different from the kind of music you normally hear in WW2 games(and mods)
and it was so incredibly fitting to have it on the loading screen.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSmnDTOjvwo

Also did anyone play the starwars mod that was released? Their first release was basically a really basic hoth map and some tie fighters. But then they released some incredibly epic maps, space dogfights, capital ships, bombing runs on the deathstar, boarding a star destroyer(and i think it was an entire star destroyer to, that map was just totaly insane) and several others. I think it was probably the best mod that was made for 1942, but then battlefront was announced and the team split up.:x

Son of a bitch...I cannot get 2142 to work, it crashes to desktop every time I try to join a server, I suspect it's not liking my creative EMU card but I can't figure out to disable it without pulling the cards out of the PCI slots. Such a pain in the ass.

Nonsense. The best was playing "Ride of the Valkyries" on the Operation Flaming Dart (Apoc. now) map.

Are you sure you're not getting a PunkBuster violation. Punkbuster has been kicking me out reliably every time I join a server. Apparently, Windows 7 isn't supported yet.

Supposedly the fix is to run it in compatibility mode for XP, which just gives me an error to insert my BF2142 disk. So until I find a work around, I'm just waiting in the wings.

I didn't even know about FH till this thread, and I played BF1942 for quite some time. I guess I was just disconnected with the community. Looks very promising however.

There was a bunch of stuff going on, it took most the afternoon to work out. It was having a sound issue, sound taxi had installed all these ridiculous drivers and bf was just shitting itself over them. I'm still having trouble with pb kicking me, but I did manage to finally play a full round just a little while ago.

I do remember part of the reason I hated this game now though. Fucking recons running up to points and throwing C4 around....

FH was the best mod for 1942. I don't care what anyone else says. It strove to be realistic, but it was still arcadey enough to be really accessible.

Also, if you're running 2142 (possibly any BF game for that matter) on Vista, make sure you're running the .exe as an admin, otherwise PB will bitch.

Wow...this is amazing, I forgot how bad the bugs in this game were, now punkbuster kicks me as soon as I click to join a server, no error message either, just a blank pop-up with punkbuster at the top.

so my attempt at getting back into this game has been met with nothing but a pain in the ass. first off the patch took like 30 fucking minutes to decide to run after making my computer freeze for minutes at a time even after a fresh restart. then i go to log into the game and cant remember my stuff. thats fine. i go to retrieve it and it would have been something i never would have guessed. way out of my normal user/passes.

    thats fine.

except meer minutes after retrieving it, im being told the password they just sent me is incorrect.

Woah where the hell did this thread come from?

I used to love me some 41 and bf2, but I went over to 2142 (I like future gadget things, sue me) I also switched because I was tired of jet-ninja. I mean sure I myself am guilty of being one of those players zooming around, gunning/bombing your airstrip so nothing could even get airborne and racking up the kills. But it gets boring. Also people are awful, especially when I started preferring the su-34 because of its bomb payload and juicy flag kills on a nice run where you just see your kills scroll up. Bulkier to handle, but I could still shoot down the american jsf's with ease due to pilots sheer suck factor.

My info is in my sig, but add VolatileSky to that list if you would be so kind op. My tag is usually [lljk], and I will slaughter you with my ganz or baur. Or, you know, we could work together?

Question: What is your preferred weapon pack/addons?

I either go support with the sonar/ganz/turret and squad lead with the gun drone
Or assault with the baur and underslung shotgun + rockets. Unless it's an attrition map, then I take defib, otherwise I am a one man meat grinder with my rifle-rocket-shotgun.

(I actually find that combo works well, the more intelligent people generally gauge when you run out of ammo, so they fully expect to see rockets after you empty a clip at them. They'll rush in with pistol out only to get cranked in the face more often than not with my shotty)

Anyways I love this game, can you tell? :3

Great, new problems with Battlefield 2142. :P Before all I had to worry about was disabling my X-Fi in the Device Manager, but now it appears the game has issues with Nvidia drivers past version 177.98. For instance, lots of people are reporting their screen going completely black or white when using the camouflage. I experience it every time I use it now, so that makes the recon kit practically useless for me. I can't seem to join Northern Strike servers, either, even though I have it installed. It says my version is different?

The newest Nvidia 181.22 (WHQL) fixes the black screen problem in 2142.

Oh and how the hell did I miss this thread!? And dang it grew like wildfire just in 2 days (crap I just realize...no pun intended with current events; sorry)!

Add Tchotchke_Man if you ever want to frolic (:winky:) about with me, I'm usualy playing on the dedicated Northern Strike servers (You'll usualy find me hanging about the FullContactWar NS server). For some reason EA thinks the word "Pajama" (no matter how you spell it) is a dirty term.

And f' all of you Assault Line haters! It's the best damn game mode ever! I know this is blasphemy but, IMHO - Battlefield 2142 + NS (and all patched up like it is now) is the best damn multiplayer team base game I've played since Tribes 2!

    See you folks in-game!

I would love to get BF1942 running on my PC. I had the #1 rank in the world for a while, playing an engineer.

My favorite part of the game engine was that bullets actually took a (realistic) while to hit their target, instead of being instant like most games. Gave some required amount of skill to do stuff other than spray n' pray with a submachine gun.
