I've been growing increasingly interested in dog psychology recently, and I'm looking for a few good books that I can read. I don't think I'm looking for a step by step dog training guide or anything, I'm interested in things like how dogs think and perceive the world around them, how different emotional/mental states are expressed through facial reactions, body language, and behavior, how dogs communicate with each other, dog social structure, and how I can communicate with dogs using their own language and psychology.
I haven't read it yet, but I might get The Dog's Mind by Bruce Fogle. Does anybody know this book or any other ones that contain what I'm looking for? Thanks!
They are really great books too. I have been using tips from his one about being the Pack leader with our new rescue German Shepherd and it's working. Once you get how the dog perceives our world the training part is a snap. You can find the books anyway and used on ebay etc.
I know Cesar writes those books, but it's not really what I'm looking for I think. I don't own a dog, and probably won't for a good amount of time if I do ever get one. While his books teach some psychology, his presentation doesn't seem to be as scientific as what I'm looking for, and is instead focused on training and application of techniques. I'm not looking for anything on how to train dogs, I just want to learn about them.
