Blizzard needs to mix loot results up more... The result was determined before i even queued up for the heroic.
You queue for a dungeon in hopes to get the trinket from last boss. you've done this heroic 4-5 times before and it has never dropped. Today you decide to pug it.
1: You enter the dungeon, and the 2 other DPS are?
Warlock (hoorah)
Rogue (damnit)
2: The first thing the rogue says is,
c) I haven't finished this heroic yet!
3: The final overall recount DPS for the instance
Hunter 10k
Tank 7.5k
Warlock 6.5k
Rogue 5.8k
4: The trinket you've never seen out of all your runs of this instance drops,
The Winner? Do you even have to ask?
(Below are the actuall rolls not even joking)
Hunter rolls 19
Rogue rolls 20 (hah)
This result was called on vent (by a guildy) before i even entered the dungeon.
(after hearing i was looking for the trinket and pugging the queue)
Guildy:
"You'll get a rogue as another dps, he'll be terrible and win the trinket if it drops"
Me:
"Sounds about right."
Predictable result is very predictable.
Yet still annoying. >< bah
I mean i could just be happy for the rogue cause it will help him do better in the future. But I'm not. If you can't out dps the goddamn tank, why the fuck are you playing a DPS class?

I don't feel too bad for you, considering that I put serious effort into getting the NES, and didn't get it until the day before cata launched.

Pfft, Survival is awesome right now. Got into my first heroic today on my hunter... BRC. Unfortunately it broke up before the third boss because the tank, healer and one DPS were from the same guild and the healer bailed after we wiped three times on the fire elemental trash guys around the third boss.
I did get the ring from the first boss and the second boss didn't drop my trinket unfortunately, but I *really* wanted a chance for the bow from the last boss. I miss having a good bow.
I did a random after that, got VP. Despite going through two healers after one wipe on the first pull, the rest of the place didn't go too badly. Unfortunately, the second boss didn't drop a new belt for me and the last boss didn't drop the gun, though whether that's a blessing or not I'm not sure.
In both cases, I was the top DPS... none of my gear is enchanted. At this point, I just wanna wait for 346s to enchant them, and now I find out that in some slots, the old WotLK agility enchants are better than Cata enchants. And because of that, the Leatherworking only enchant is *hideously* powerful (+130 Agility), since there are no current level agility enchants for bracers at all.
I figure if I can chain run as many heroics as possible while Survival is overpowered, by the time we get nerfed, I'll have better gear and be at about the same level as before. So we'll see.

It's not that. It's just, we expect the worst, then it happends. Regularly. And thats sad.
You think that's bad? This other tank that was in an old guild I was in back in the Kara days has been trying to get the shield off Nightbane(?) http://www.wowhead.com/item=28606 since back in the BC days. We've gone into that place EVERY week to see if the thing actually exists or is some kind of mythical beast like Loch Ness. To this day, we still haven't gotten the thing to drop. When I finally met him irl, we had a beer and had a good laugh/cry over it.
I went ahead and did it last night right before I went to bed. I did wipe the first try, but second try it went really smoothly. No drake for me, but I'll keep it up. Camo is *really* useful for stuff like this.
I didn't see that, but by coincidence I went and solo'd skadi earlier today. Found the gauntlet harder than the boss really (tank pets are so OP) but mostly because I went into autopilot from heroic runs and tried to rush through.
So I just made myself a Goblin hunter and I'm a few XP away from level 10.
What's considered to be the best leveling Spec?
Also, gear wise I should go for agility pretty much exclusivly, right?

BM is traditionally considered the best, but I'd say any of them will do. Back in the day mana was the big issue that limited MM and Surv quite a bit (no one likes to constantly sit down to drink while leveling), but nowadays it's not an issue, obviously.
Right now I have the Goblin default Crab. I kinda like it.
I used tallstrider initially (not that I didn't like my Mastiff but I wanted something more unique. He worked really well until I hit Theramore and found a really cool Spiny Rock Crab that I used all the way up until..well I still use him at lvl 72 for difficult pulls. Once I hit 69 however I immedaitely went back to Ungoro and got a Trex, because well...it's a Trex.
Crabs rock!

I *really* liked Survival for leveling. The problem being that you tend to pull off of your pet really easily because your damage is so high. This is solved at 76 when you can get Misdirection along with the Glyph.
As for Skadi, yeah, the gauntlet is a little tougher of the two parts. I did just get 'My Girl Loves to Skadi All the Time' when I took 10 minutes during my lunch break to run it. No drake yet though.
I'm a BM 26 and am using a White Wolf from Ashenvale. The Wolf + Dash = Awesome. By the time I start hitting the guy my pet has full aggro and my Kill Commands hit like fucking trucks, it is awesome!
EDIT:
I do have a question however, I seem to have more abilities then ability slots. Are there any good mods that let you add more to the sides or double up above on the ability bars?

WoW by default lets you have a doubled up bar (it's under UI options in the options menu) But there are many many mods that gives you new bars or allow you to rearrange bars to your liking. It's been awhile since I've played (Currently just using default WoW UI) but I think Bartender is the mod I used way back. Not sure what the goto mod is these days.

Oh awesome, I didn't know the default UI had that built in. I'll have to dig deeper, they def. seemed to have built a lot of go-to mods into the UI itself. I need to spend more time in the options.
In my experience, you usually have some pet abilities that you're never going to have on (cower) or never going to have off. I just don't put those on the bar, leave them in the book with their auto-cast settings at default.
First thing I do when I create a new character is turn on all the action bars.
EDIT: Why would you not use cower now? While not great, it costs no focus and reduces incoming damage for a bit every 45 seconds. I wouldn't put it on the pet bar, though, just leave it in the book.
My wolf never dies in fights, and I never have to heal it. Sometimes, I want to send it after adds. On the bizarre off chance that it dies, I can just heart of the phoenix it back up. Why do I care about cower at all?

High dps specs don't have HotP so most raiding hunters won't have that option.
Cower is completely reactive, is used automatically when the pet is at 30-40% health or below if it is set to autocast. Since it is unlikely to be active if your pet has to move then it's good to have to it on as a just in case, a dead pet for any reason is a large dps loss. Especially if you are Surv and using a dragonhawk for the debuff.
No reason not to use it, but plenty of reasons why not having it autocast could be a loss for you.
Depends on your group make-up really, the main pickup for Surv picking the dragonhawk is the +8% magic damage debuff which is a heck of a lot of extra damage for you personally. If someone else in your raid can supply that debuff then you are golden to use any other pet that fills a de/buff you don't have.
My current pet setup is Dragonhawk/Cat/Fox/Turtle/Bird of Prey, quite simply +8% magic debuff / battleshout / attackspeed debuff / tank pet / pvp pet, pick the pet as they fit the situation : )
Guildie was just doing dailies and found him wandering around, I booked it over there and got him. This is the second Spirit Beast/Rare pet I have now, first being Skoll (also found in a similar way!)
I *just* missed Sambas earlier today. I did a fly around, didn't see him, went to do CoC with a group and when I finished, I started doing my Dragonmaw dailies. As I went up to kill the high shaman, all of a sudden NPC Scan goes crazy (there's a Sambas spawn point right next to that spot). I run between the buildings to go get it, and an orc hunter landed right in front of me and started taming it (while he still had his current pet lava turtle out).

Does this one require you to be in BM? My hunter who has that wolf from waaay long ago when that glitch was up was able to use it in Survival as well as BM. But given this one is a "spirit beast" it probably requires BM? So mine is still a unique snowflake?
Well, the Survival nerfs don't seem *that* bad yet... just reducing the bonus Agility from 15% to 10%. And at the same time buffing Kill Shot for Marksmanship.
As it is, I'm at 9.7k AP as Survival and I still have like, half my equipment as 333s still. Pretty sure I'll easily be able to break 10k before the nerf goes into effect. After the nerf... might be a bit harder, not sure.
Don't all hunter specs get buffed (to some extent) by a buffed Kill Shot?
I'm a little surprised that I didn't see anything about Imp Serpent Sting + Serpent Spread, since I thought Blizzard had mentioned concerns with Survival's superb AoE ability. I mean the 5% agility reduction will hurt their AoE somewhat, but probably not more than like 3%.
Really enjoying my hunter right now. I've been switching between Surv and MM, just to mix things up, even though it feels like surv is clearly the superior spec (i also tried out BM.. i couldn't even out dps a shadow priest in that garbage spec!). But looking to later upgrades as a casual player makes me All guns.. or all crap. And guns are horrible, they make way too much noise. And I'm not aware of a way I can turn just gun noise off, I like hearing everything else in game, but fuck guns.
