Legendary?

Did anyone actually play this? It got terrible reviews, but that's never any indication (for example: I thought Gears of War 2 didn't deserve the ratings it got, I liked Assassin's Creed more than any critic).
I snagged the demo today and it seemed pretty rad (plus it has a bitchin' soundtrack, which I promptly downloaded), but I didn't know if that persisted through the whole game. Does anyone?
Here is a list with problems that have populated first person shooters for a long time:
Invisible Walls
Unskipable cut scenes
Bad cut scenes
Disparity between what happens in cut scenes and what happens in game
Bad voice acting
Invincible enemies that don't even respond to being attacked
Weird animation
Ugly human models
Awful pedestrian intro sections, where you cannot die or interact with anything in any meaningful way
Long load times
Bits where you have to hold a button for 6/7 seconds to turn a dial
These are all present in Legendary.
Maybe the rest of the game is fantastic, but my time with the first 20 minutes of the game was a waste of my life, and I will never get that time back.
Soundtrack is pretty rocking though.
Multiplayer is terrible. It's novel for all of about 10 minutes, after which it devolves into "get Werewolf goo" and "put in machine" on limited maps with poor design.
Single Player is passable. It's worth playing once, but only after you've played all of the OTHER good games out there and most of the mediocre ones. It relies too much on scripted set-pieces. I really liked the battle with the gigantic trash/city golem with its Ghostbusters-esque feel, but that's about it.
EDIT: To put it in perspective, Clive Barker's Undying has most of the above problems listed by LewieP, but it still manages to be a fun and awesome game. Legendary is not fun.
EDIT 2: Legendary isn't even in the same LEAGUE as Assasin's Creed and Gears of War 2. It's shovelware. If you get it for free, then it might be worth playing, but there are many free games out there right now that exceed Legendary's quality (or lack thereof).
Sweet merciful christ I agree with all of that. I played the first 20 minutes of the game in the PAX expo hall last year and kept waiting for the game to finally reach its most underwhelming moment, but it never managed to hit bottom.
After that, the game vanished from the "stuff I'm even marginally interested in hearing more about" list forever.

I mean, that's kinda why I asked. I've played everything interesting, and there's a week till FEAR 2 and Dawn of War II come out, so I'm between games right now. I might look for a cheap used copy nearby (I'm sure there'll be one, heh).
There's got to be better ways to spend your money. Steam's store has really blown up in the last couple of quarters--you might be able to find something to tide you over on the cheap if you look there.

Played most of the stuff that interested me. And I found Legendary for 25 bucks. Might look into it.
Is pirates really good, I might get that on LIVE if it is. It's basically an adventure game right. Anyway I rented Legendary from Rogers last week, It got returned the next day.
Sid Meier's Pirates! is an excellent game. It's part trading game (like space trader), part ship combat game, part dating sim (believe it or not)... it's hard to explain entirely. The way you want to play the game is entirely up to you. You can even follow the actual plot of the game, if you really want. *grin*
And it's better than Legendary. Even the old versions, before the remakes.
A game that occurs to me as being sort of similar to Legendary: Painkiller. I played both of the demos about a million times and loved them. Singleplayer FPS fun of the best kind. I still haven't bought the game but it's always in the back of my mind as something I can buy for cheap when I want to play that style of game.
Well, no. Not really. It's a sim/strategy/RPG type of thing. You have a sandboxy world which you can interact with in various ways; just go piratin', capturing ships and earning gold, you can hunt down other pirates, you can find the lost city of gold, all that sort of stuff. It's the sort of game you can play over and over again.

I wouldn't even say it has decent graphics. And it certainly isn't worth 25 bucks. You can get TWO games that are both better than Legendary individually for 25 bucks on any online distribution of your choice. You can get games for FREE right now that are far better than Legendary. Stuff like The Suffering and Rise of Nations (courtesy of US Air Force ads) or the ad-supported Ubi Soft titles like Ghost Recon and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.

I had exactly this experience.
The frigging Mushroom game looked like a better idea.
Let me just weigh in and say the critics (as a whole, not individually) giving a game terrible reviews are typically a pretty good indication that it sucks. They usually tend to foul up more on the other end of the scale, e.g. calling a mediocre game great because it's massively hyped.

My zombie survival life simulator They Don't Sleep is out now on Steam if you want to check it out.

Agreed. IGN gave it a 2.5/10. Think of how bad a game has to be for IGN to saddle a game with a score that low.

As much as I dislike Legendary, let this not become a discussion about God Hand of Ye Olde IGN Reviewe Scorre 3.0.

Let me get this straight. You was hesitant about a DRM-free copy of a game that you can keep on your harddrive, and even put on a disk to install on any other machine without internet access with free ability to play and also have the ability to download the soundtrack, wallpapers, and avatars. Instead you get it off steam? Seriously?

It's not like the Steam version has DRM, either (unless you're referring to Steam in general). I prefer to have it lying on my Steam account, as it's a game I reinstall every so often. All that other stuff is utterly worthless, except the soundtrack, which is included in the game's install directory anyway.
Ok, so you have a point about the ability to transfer the thing to other computers, but don't chastize him for picking it up on Steam when that has its own advantages.

I love Painkiller, but I haven't heard that many great things about the sequel. How is it?
Imagine every thing you love about Painkiller. Now Imagine get rid of the metal soundtrack, The ton's of ammo you'll find and the wonderful level design. Then add in having the main character say one liners every five seconds while enemies spawn right on top of you all while following a horrid storyline. Awful game compared to the original.

I got it as a gift.
It wasn't much of a gift.
It has...really awesome ideas which are implemented horribly.
Basically, it's a low-grade FPS with decent graphics, good concepts and takes place almost entirely in sewers.
Just say "No" to Legendary.
I fucking hated Legendary.
It's one of the few games I ever sold.

There is not a single damn excuse now. Get it and play it and love it Just like I have. Best money I've ever spent on GoG, honestly.

I played the mushroom game right after Legendary too!!
But once me and Captain Cthulu discovered Sugar Rush that was the only reason to go to the expo hall.
I love Painkiller, but I haven't heard that many great things about the sequel. How is it?
I can get it on STEAM for ten bucks?
if the store corroborates your story I am buying it THIS MINUTE
I don't think they do
Painkiller IS on Steam for $10.
painkiller has multiplayer
as in shuriken/lightning-gun multiplayer?
oh shit

Holds up WAY better than Serious Sam, if you ask me.
Plus Serious Sam didn't have stake-guns, so there you go.
Painkiller had better music too. But yeah, the stake gun totally makes the game. Though the end boss can choke on a fat dick.

As an aside, Too Human is $20 at one of them.
It's worth at least 20. Legendary... Isn't quite the 13.
