What do people think of him? I have 3 of his CD's, and I love listening to them...it's different from most other stand up because the guy just comes off as really sincere.

But a lot of the stuff he says really wouldn't go down today, like his stance on gays in the military- (If ANYONE is stupid enough to be in the military, they deserve to stay in there.)

I don't like Bill Hicks at all. I hate that strident drugged out bullshit of how awesome and mind expanding hallucinogens are, but the government doesn't like want you to free yourself, man.

I hate his voice, delivery, and I didn't find him funny.

I'm glad I don't like him though because he is very dead. Sucks for his fans!

I wondered about that, with the Kerry thing. Joining the army means more people will try to kill you.
It's like pissing of the mafia.
    Or driving drunk
Maybe even running around in a storm with a big metal stake.
    I.E. stupid.

So, U.S. of A, how have those SAT adjustments been doing?

on topic: Hicks is hilarious, sharp beyond what the US deserves up until this day, and a visionary. But he does fucking repeat himself.

Yes, clearly joining the military has no positive benefits whatsoever and anyone who even considers it is a moron.

The sad thing is that anyone with half a brain could tell what he meant by that comment.

    Rogue helicopter?
Ecoterrorism is actually the single largest terrorist threat at the moment. They don't usually kill people, but they blow up or set on fire very expensive things.

Yeah, he sure was a visionary. All ranting and raving up there spewing spit around his cigarette. Genius!

I think the fact that his topics of discussion weren't just controversial, but very serious issues that affect us, and yet he still found a way to make us laugh at them goes to show exactly how talented and insightful he was.

Tbh, even if I agreed with him politically, I didn't really find him all that funny.

His commentary on drugs I found funny. His political rants were hit or miss, but mostly miss.

He's hilarious, and he made a lot of jokes years before they ended up being popular.

And people have ripped him off (Dennis Leary, at the very least... and blatantly I might add).

This is going to end as another Dane Cook fest, but I guess I'm on the other side this time. I find this guy to be very very funny.

I think, on the subject of hallucinogens, he's spot on, and pretty hilarious. I don't agree with his POV on smoking, but he pokes fun at himself about his habit and I appreciate that.

I agree. The government's stupid, not evil.

Probably my favorite comedian. Bill Hicks' method and stage presence was the really interesting part of his act. No other comedian could scare the shit out of an audience while keeping them laughing like Hicks. I find that directed intensity to be really interesting, especially compared to something like the unfocused, manic personae of the Dane Cooks and Robin Williamses of the world. Not that those are bad comedians, but Bill Hicks actually was that guy on stage, period. See his bit on marketing for a good example of this.

I watched several clips of him on teh Youtube and it seems that not only did leary rip off his jokes he ripped off a big part of Hicks' presentation style, what with the speaking very face and the annoying, indignant smoking of the cig in very animated ways.
