So my PC has hated my shuffle for a while now. Shuffle is one of the second gen ones btw, anodized case and clip, not the original pack of gum looking models. If I have the shuffle plugged into the base and that is plugged into the PC, it will not boot. No Post screen, no monitor, no nothing. I thought it might be trying to boot from the usb or something, but that does not explain the lack of my post screen and the bios isn't set in that order anyways.
A couple weeks ago I had a new fun problem. The PC was on and I went to dock the shuffle and the entire thing crashed. Rebooted with the shuffle out and go to dock again and crash. Of course I can't start with the shuff docked so that is out. Finally I rebooted and swapped the dock to another usb port. Could dock the pod without a crash.
Has this ever happened to anyone else?
Tech specs:
64-bit Vista
Gigabyte GA-EP35-DSL, 4gb ram, e7200
Had the same start up problem with my old mobo. Forget what it was, think it was an abit AMD board, some old athlon.
I had a similiar experience. But instead of your problems my computer crashed and then upon reboot none of my USB ports worked. None. No key board no mouse. I had to go dig up my serial connected ancient keyboard.
Took me awhile to get the USB's working again.
The shuufle was a far easier fix. I bought a Zune.
Well, inasmuch as you want to keep using your Shuffle, it sounds like a problem with the USB drivers--I guess the obvious question is were the USB ports separate? Was one on a PCI-to-USB, and the other one on your motherboard?

*is stumped otherwise*
I'm drawing a blank, but it might of been. I either went to a different bank on the main board or I switched from one of the PCI card banks to the main mobo bank...
It hasn't returned so I'm not too worried.
Its good to know the startup problem is universal.

That sucks. So, you're not supposed to have your iPod plugged your machine when you start your computer up? When did this become a problem? o_O And why haven't more people complained?
Anyway, assuming it was just a USB thing, it makes a lot of sense that you'd get a difference between PCI-to-USB versus the USB device built into your motherboard, especially if you built your own machine (speaking from experience). I had a similar case where PCI-to-USB refused to work as USB 2.0 (it'd only go to 1.1). Pain in the ass.
I know one thing, back when I had my shuffle, if I tried to boot my mac, I'd get the blue screen and the computer would sit there. The moment I unplugged the Shuffle OS X started. It was like the computer was endlessly trying to start up from the shuffle.

Wow, so it even happens on Mac?
That is bizarre. I realize that the shuffle can effectively serve as a tiny hard disc partition (albeit with no sort of boot software on it, right?), but you'd think it'd skip over it if it detected it at all.

Dunno what to do about the other problem.
