PR:
Those of you playing "Announcement BINGO" at home, please cover up the square for Knights in the Nightmare, because it's coming to North America. What kind of game is it, exactly? Glad you asked!
Simply put, Knights in the Nightmare is a gaming experience unlike anything else. And we're not just saying that. You are a magical wisp with the power to guide spirits of dead knights, helping to free their trapped souls by cleansing a tainted castle. Your movements on the touch screen precisely control the wisp on the top screen, allowing for immediate, accurate gameplay. Special attacks, dodging projectiles, and collecting items couldn't be any faster or easier. There is a learning curve, a steep one, but the incredibly comprehensive and at times interactive tutorial has you covered. Manage and equip items, level the knights you command, and pay heed to what you're up against in each battle, as a little forethought can often make all the difference.
Then there are the game's visual and aural components. This is one of the most stylish, beautifully-conceived games for Nintendo DS. The score matches the game's themes perfectly; somber at times, intense and charged with energy at others. Knights in the Nightmare also pays close attention to the little things, conveniences intended to make life easier for the gamer. And because finishing the game once unlocks the ability to play through again from a different perspective -- through the eyes of the antagonist -- you'll certainly want to play through again.
Knights in the Nightmare is scheduled for release on June 2nd with an MSRP of $34.99. We'll share much more about this one in the near future... stay tuned!
Story:
Somewhere between heaven and the underworld--in the center of a quiet lake--stood an ancient castle known as Aventheim. One night, without warning, denizens of the netherworld emerged and slaughtered the kingdom; nary a soul was left alive. Within an abandoned, long-forgotten church deep in the woods, a wisp is set free. Bereft of memory, it is drawn toward a monster-infested castle and re-awakens the souls of vanquished knights, leading them back towards the fallen stronghold to confront the very forces of evil that took their lives.
Gameplay: Rather than try to describe something I haven't fully grasped I'll hand it over to the fine gents at Atlus with their very nice tutorial videos. I'll update this section once I've learned the systems myself as well as when the next tutorial video is up.

This statement makes perfect sense and makes me want to buy this even before I watch the video for it
edit:
Looks a bit complicated, but very interesting. The attacks definitely look like something out of a shooter.
Did you try out the jp version of this game Aroduc? The impressions I read back during its release were pretty positive.
Added the Japanese official site to the OP. The main theme playing in the background is ace. The music this time is scored entirely by Shigeki Hayashi who also scored parts of the previous two Dept Heaven games. I was thinking it'd be Minako Adachi and him again but I guess not even though some of the music sounds more like stuff Adachi would compose.
This thread's getting less replies than I'd expected.
In NichM's words "It's simple, though. Knights really isn't too different from the other stylus-driven bullet hell strategy RPGs out there.
The tutorial is incredibly in-depth, so it shouldn't be too difficult to get the hang of things.

That's good to know.
Man Bursar I take anything I've said back about Atlus seeming to have a sparse release line up for this year. You guys going into overdrive in this first half of the year.
Yeah, we just choose not to announce our stuff until about two months or so before it hits stores. You'll notice that the vast majority of first screenshots are already in English, which means that we've already been at work on them for a long time before that.

Currently playing: GW2 and TSW
I remember in the credits of the jp version Atlus USA was credited with the translations, was that work coordinated for the localization or was that just a request from Sting?
It's in OP but yeah they're both part of the Dept Heaven series by Sting.
Looks interesting but... well, I hope it has a good tutorial.
Kind of like The World Ends With You, but that turned out okay.
I should probably get around to play Etrian Odyssey and Disgaea...
Atlus's involvement in the JP version was in the spoken dialogue - not the acting, but the words.

Watch the videos!
Or, to use some imagery... Pretend you're playing an SRPG on the DS, but you've got a cursor that you're moving to select your guys instead of tapping. The enemies are roaming around in real-time, but they have simple movement patterns. You attack by moving grabbing a weapon from the rack on the right, dragging it over to a unit that can use it, charging the attack, then releasing the stylus. Your units are mostly invincible, but they can only attack so many times before their life force fades out and they're gone, so you need to manage that. The enemies aren't attacking your knights (usually) - instead, they attack your cursor with bullet hell-type attacks, which you must dodge with the stylus while you're simultaneously trying to fight back.
I realize that I'm sliding into shill territory here, but I'm just glad that I can finally talk about this. I'll try to lay low a little.

I'm guessing Atlus USA's involvement was in that English-dubbed trailer I saw floating around on youtube?

Hahaha. I was a little surprised when I heard the trailer in English, I thought a fan had dubbed over it at first.

That one. Japanese trailer, English VO.

Looking forward to this.
I'll be totally getting this just like I got Rivera and Yggdra.
Personally I was more offended by Rhapsody then the bugs, but man alive that was a bad one.
Wait a tick.
I just realized that the only N1 games with localization that I really liked were done by Atlus...
Yes, but it is of equal quality as the No More Heroes debut trailer.

Spoiling just to be safe. It's yet another werewolf/behemoth looking thing.

I'll never find a game that fulfills my wishes
You will not find other games on the market anywhere that play like them.
Also, this game will be mine.

Sounds like a bullet hell trait to me.
Nah. There's a difference between pushing yourself into an unwinnable situation because you don't know how to react and things spawning on top of you because you dared to be in the wrong quadrant of the field.

I know it's (shiren:tw) a roguelike... but how's the replay on it? n/m... I'll go find the thread on it that I saw earlier... it's somewhere around here.
Been devouring all the videos I can find of Knights in the Nightmare... haven't found anything with english text yet.
It seems to be just one fight after another... with bits of story in between... no world map or anything like that. Is that the case?
