I was wondering if anyone here could confirm that the Nintendo DS is (or is not) the same system in the US and in England. I live in the US and am considering purchasing a DS for a gift for someone in England. Will games and systems purchased in each country be identical, or is there regional encryption as with some DVDs?
My guess is that they are the same (PSP games purchased in the US worked with a PSP bought in England), but I wanted to double-check before dropping the money on the system.
Just make sure you buy it for them with the proper power adapter for their country. That is, don't buy a DS in North America and ship it to them. They'll need to buy another power adapter so they can charge it with their 220v. If you buy it from somewhere in the UK it shouldn't be a problem.
Everywhereasign on
"What are you dense? Are you retarded or something? Who the hell do you think I am? I'm the goddamn Batman!"
Ok, another related question, that I assume I know the answer to but cannot actually look up anywhere:
Will a DS Lite purchased in the US (comes with a charger for the 120V US eletrical system) work with a charger purchased in the UK (for the 220V electricity there)? I'm guessing yes, but want confirmation from someone who knows better than I do.

Yeah, it'll totally work. The "brick" end that plugs into the wall converts the voltage (AC 110 in North America or 220 in UK) down to 5.2v DC, no matter where you buy the DS or the charger, the DS Lite uses 5.2v DC.

Yes, an adapter purchased in the UK will work. So will a USB-charger-adapter purchased anywhere on Earth. And as mentioned the DS is region-free, as are all the games for the DS, obviously.

Thanks for your help.

this one would work perfectly with any DS lite.
I'm looking to buy one myself for my travels overseas. If you find a good price on a 220 adapter, PM me the url.
If I remember my school trips rightly, it would work in Germany and probably the rest of Europe, just not here. I think.
