Breaking a cellphone contract early

ok so I have t mobile and I am really tired of my blackberry pearl. It's old and starting to break.

I've wanted an iPhone since like forever, but I have almost a year left on my contract with t mobile.

My question is, is there any way currently to break the contract with out getting the break fee?

Usually sites like consumerist.com will have articles (you can search the site) if any contract breakage becomes available for the major networks. Sprint had a recent increase in their administration fee, the latest I see on T-Mobile is April 2007. If you're still getting service from T-Mobile where you use your phone there isn't really anything you can use as leverage to get it waived. "I swear I'll cancel my account if you don't waive my termination fee!" is a hard sell.

Do you have insurance coverage on the pearl or is the "starting to break" more of a "starting to wear down?" Depending on your warranty or insurance status, you can get a replacement phone, sell that like-new phone on E-Bay or craigslist to cover your termination fee, then skip on out to handing Apple gold bricks for fart apps.

that's basically your best option, if your phone is broken without evidence of user damage, you could try getting them to replace it or look into using that as a reason to break contract. But the best you can realistically hope for is a new Pearl or a repair on yours, which should cover the termination fee.

Did they ever release iPhones unlocked? Or is Wal-Mart selling AT&T plans now?
