Hey guys, so I have a desktop and a laptop. I need to grab some files from my laptop but when i try to get into my laptop through my desktop I am prompted with a username/password situation. Don't really know what to do since i dont have my laptop password protected or anything like that. Guess im kind of a networking noob, plz help ^_^
Kk, heres a little more info, when I click on my laptops icon I get the username/password promt. I type in my laptops name and just hit enter (no password) and I get a message saying my laptop is not accessible and i may not have permission to access the laptop
Do you have different accounts on your laptop? If you do, try using the main account you use.
If there is a computer Administrator, you'll be able to see the account name in Safe Mode. The user name is usually Admin or Administrator without a password. That account might be the one the laptop is looking for.
I tried typing in Admin but that did not work. Administrator worked though, but I still get an error message saying I might not have permission; but at the bottom of the message it says Logon Failure: Account Currently Disabled
Have you checked your laptop itself to see if it allows other computers to see it? Stupid question I know... but I'm running out of advice... I'm sorry I can't help more.
Also try the default username of guest with a blank password.
If both computers are on XP (vista probably has a similar function), you might also be able to run the home networking wizard thing to get the computers to allow each other access. It will be in the Network and Internet Connections area of the control panel.
