Anyone have any experiences with purchasing an open box item on Newegg? I've been checking out a 32"Samsung 720p hdtv. The current price is $549 with free shipping. Right now, there's a 32" 1080p open box TV for sale for $10 less. I'm kinda hesitant, but it seems like a pretty good deal.

Newegg specifically states that unless you know how to repair tech, or know someone who does, your quite likely boned if the open box stuff goes belly up.
They really really really warn against it unless you know what the hell your doing and are capable of fixing your own shit.
For a video card or ram or something I might get a year or two out of and might only cost $100/$200 I'll go open box. but for a monitor or TV that costs a good chunk of change and that I might want for 5+ years? I'd go new.
If it were 25%, yes, open box might be worth it (usually is about 1/4 off the original price). Generally NewEgg is pretty good about it, you'll probably still have the manufacturer's warranty, but you'll probably be boned on replacement from NewEgg or anything like that.

not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me
I have never purchased an open box item from newegg but I have made plenty of other purchases.
I had to have 1 item RMa'd due to damage during shipping and it was pretty painless getting it shipped back and getting the item replaced, customer service was excellent. I would advise getting their service plan for the tv also.
Yeah, I have no qualms about standard purchases from Newegg. I've had a line of credit with them for a few years now. I've just never tried an open box purchase. It seems like the item isn't available for purchase anymore anyway.

I'm pretty sure the OP is saying the Open Box "better" television is $10 cheaper than the newer one he was looking at with free shipping, not that it was a $10 savings on the open box item.
However, I'd probably agree that the ten dollars is worth it to me so I don't have to worry about repair issues and the like. I'm not sure how much of an actual difference the 1080 is over the 720, though.

$10 or bigger risk of a DoA TV/warranty issues?
I'd pay the $10 thank you very much :P

I'd go with the 720p set.
the "no true scotch man" fallacy.
If it's going to be like, on your desk and used as a computer monitor, the 1080p might be worth it.
