Can I get a deal at a Crunch gym in NYC?

I just moved to NYC and need a new gym membership, but I’d like to do it as inexpensively as possible. There’s a Crunch in my building, so it seems like the logical option. What can I say/do to get them to waive activation fees and maybe even lower my monthly rate?

    You probably missed out on that opportunity, I know a lot of gyms give special deals / don't charge activation fees at the start of the New Year, for the New Years resolution crowd.

    Check your benefits of your employer. A lot of companies these days have negotiated discounted membership fees for their employees at local gyms as part of their health and wellness programs.
