I recently have been introduced into the 21st Century with my purchase of a 42" Philips 1080p LCD. I knew going in that no Plasma or LCD will work with either my Namco Guncon or Sega Stunner gun. I thought to myself, if I want to play I'll just move my Saturn or Playstation into my bedroom where my 32" Toshiba Analog now lies.
But, like any gamer, my systems are properly stored with wires running behind, up, and down my entertainment center. Unhooking all of that and moving into another part of the house doesn't seem worth it. Nor does buying another Saturn of Playstation to play a game every once in a while for about 30 or 40 minutes.
I, also, put my hopes into Guncon 3 since it works on LCD's and Plasma's but found out it's not BC with PSX games. Even though PS3 are BC to PSX games. No logic there if you ask me.
How hard would it be to make some sort of third party sensor based light gun that plugs into your RCA like the Guncon 1? Am I the only one who's stuck in this situation?
For the playstation, just buy another set of cheap 3rd party cables. Then you can move it between TVs with ease. (Just unplug and replug 2 cables.) Actually if you already have a ps3 in your living room why do you need the psx there anyway?
It makes sense that Guncon3 is not compatible because the technology behind it is completely different. (IR tracking instead of detecting CRT scan.) Notice that you need to calibrate Guncon3 and not the other ones? The software on those games is not set up for it.
I just wish hey sold Guncon3's separately so I could buy another one.
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

Er...I was under the impression that this was no longer the case, and hadn't been for awhile? Is yours one of the early models?
Sega Stunner doesn't work on LCDs? Lame! I just got Virtua Cop and was in the market for a stunner, but now it looks like it's not worth it.
Just bought SCUD for the hell of it. So I know how you feel.
I wonder if the NES zapper will work? I remember it worked by just flashing the screen whenever you shot and then something magic happened and a duck died.
If it doesn't work with new TVs please please PLEASE don't ruin my day and let me just go about in my ignorance.

All PS3s have PS1 BC.
Lotta acronyms.
But I was speaking of the Guncon controller. It only works with Time Crisis 4 on the PS3 even though the PS3 is Backwards Compatable with PSX games.
To be fair, I think I remember that the Guncon 2 wouldn't work with the PS1 and the Guncon 1 wouldn't work with the PS2. It's something with how the games handle them in addition to the newer TV technology I think.

I tried this at a friend's house and it didn't work at all on his HD LCD TV.
Yeah, I always thought it just flashed the screen white except for things that you could hit, and the gun had a camera that saw the black parts and registered a hit. But for some reason it just doesn't work. It always thinks you're aiming offscreen when you pull the trigger.
I use the LCD Topgun. Works with any light gun game on the PS2 and Xbox with any TV. Works with PC light gun games too, including MAME ones, apparently.

Some PS2 light gun games work with the Guncon 1. Vampire Night, for example.
It's funny, but this is the main reason why I don't want to upgrade to an HDTV in my game room. I love light gun games. I'll take shooting pixelated aliens over watching high-def movies. How sad is that?

No PSX game has the code to read the Guncon 3's calibration, so why would you expect it to work? It's like wondering why you can't use the Sixaxis motion controls in Rage Racer (and even that would be much easier to emulate).

Quit being such a tease, where did you get it?
I got mine from Playasia. It works great but it's a bit of a pain in the arse to set up if i'm honest

LIZ: Different.
