Hi. I'm new to the forums but not new to Penny Arcade. Here is some of my art. I've resigned myself to the fact that myspace will be the closest I ever get to having my own site. boo. Anywho... here is some of my work. Throw produce- but nicely!
OK8-)
Oh and deviantart is great. people critisize it a lot for having shit up there, but somewhere amongst it all are some very tallented illustrators. like me (no, not really)
Your pencils are probably your best work, but they still could use some work.
Your photoshop is not very good at all. It's all waaaaaay to photoshp-y. For example: using the desert gradient on superman's belt buckle? Is he even in the desert? Whey else would it reflect that. Not to mention you're using really really saturated colors, and it over bearing.
Whay does flash have gradient triangles attached to his head? I know its meant to read as hair, but it makes no sence. there are many much better solutions to simplifying hair than triangles. And bluring? Baaaaad idea. Using all of these photoshop effect screams amatuer.
Oh yeah. And its typically a bad idea to mix photo's with drawing. that is if you actually want it to look as if the drawn elements and the photographic elements are to look as if they are existing together. For your image up there, it would probably be your best bet to just draw the star wars characters out, using that pic as reference, and do it in the same style as your guy.
So git in there and do the work yourself! Trying to let photoshop do the work will never look as good.
Other than that, I'de like to encourage you to keep posting because i can see the potential in your pencil work!
Thank you for the honest critique. I will take all those suggestions and I definitely don't want anything I do to scream "amature." I guess I've used photoshop as a crutch and you are the first one to actually point it out.
I'll do some still life stuff since you asked Nappuccino. It's not really my thing but I need to get off my lazy ass and practice. I'd post oldies but I guess that's kind of cheating no?
Posts
cause that is such a good movie haha.
I like your pencils better than the photoshop stuff
and i find the real picture in the background of the first one kind of distracting.
cool stuff I'm at work so no big crits from me, other people probably will give you some good advice
i've been so useless for advice lately haha.
edit: try deviantart, it's better than myspace for getting exposure:
