Getting a tattoo while losing weight, should I wait?

Just a quick question on this, I'm losing weight right now with a new lifestyle that includes eating right, being active and working out and I'm dropping weight at a pretty good rate (about 5 pounds per week right now). I still want to lose about 120 pounds (yeah, I am/was pretty big).

Question is should I wait to get a tattoo if I'm worried about it distorting with the weight loss?

Depends on where? Will it be an area that will shrink down a lot? 120 lbs is quite a bit of weight. If it's going to be a standard design with not a lot of intricacy then chances are it won't lose a lot, if any-buuuut if it's insanely intricate I would wait.

Most of the time you never lose any detail but on the other hand I'd wait to be safe. I've lost 50lbs and my tattoos have been fine, but with big weight loss there is a chance.

I would wait as well, when you lose weight it takes time for your skins elasticity to return. After you've reached your goal your skin will basically re-shape to your new frame (its much more complex then this, I know) and it will be safe to get a tattoo without any worries (beyond the regular ones). Gaining muscle mass has a similar effect but you tend to lose weight at a much quicker rate then you bulk up. which for some reason makes a difference.

I'd wait, hell I'd even use it as encouragement to keep you motivated. Get the tattoo once you've completed your goal weight and get it as a reward to yourself because you will have earned it, what your doing is no easy feat my friend and I commend you for it.

Definitely wait. You've went your whole life without this tattoo; now you're taking care of yourself and getting in shape (and doing a pretty good job of it, congrats). You don't want to get fit and be looking good...expect for your stretchy tattoo. Plus, you never know, you might find something you want more in the meantime.
