Vista Movie Maker WMV Problem

My sister just got a new Vista laptop because her old XP based one wasn't cutting it for video editing, and she's got this problem:
When certain WMV files from the digital camcorder software they use are used in the Movie Maker in her new Vista based notebook, they playback as a single-pixel horizontal line on a black background. Other files and apparently some other WMV files work fine. This occured with both the Original files and when they tried re-extracting them from the Camcorder.
Has anyone heard of this issue and/or solved it?
