new 360 + old hard drive

My xbox has red ringed for the third time. While Microsoft has been gracious enough to repair it for free, again, my confidence in their refurbishing services is nonexistent. I am planning on buying a new arcade system as a replacement and using my original hard drive. Has anyone done this? I am under the impression that downloadable content is linked to gamertag and console, so I am not sure what will happen when I hook it up to the new one. I really don't want to re-download all my rock band tracks. I could take days.

You will only be able to access your content while logged into Live unless you use Microsoft's license migration tool.

Thats exactly what I did. So far a month into it and no issues, but I'm always logged into live, so I've not toyed with said tool. That sounded gross.
