I picked up a python 990 remote start and alarm for my 2001 silverado today on sale at circuit city since they are going under. Since the store shut down their install department, i was gonna have a friend of a friend who used to work there do the job. When one of the staff overheard who i was gonna have do the work he told me not to let the guy anywhere near my truck since he has no idea what he is doing and that he had been fired for stealing. Then 3 other employes / his former coworkers (including his former boss) joined in the conversation and backed up what this guy was telling me. One of these guys gave me his number and said he could do the install for $80 tomorrow if i wanted. From what i hear, this is about half of what i could expect to pay for a store install but i dont know this guy or anything about the job being done. I was hoping to get some more info before im supposed to call this guy in the morning. What kinda stuff should i watch out for? Any tell tale signs he has no idea what he is doing? How long should this take? How badly could he screw up my truck? Any info would be great so i dont have my truck screwed up tomorrow.
