Windows XP Themes Problem

When I try to change themes in Windows XP, I get this error:

An exception occurred while trying to run "C:\Windows\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\Windows\system32\desk.cpl",Display"

System restore has failed me and I don't have access to my Windows XP disc right now. :?

    What service pack version do you have?

    How many Themes do you have saved?

    I have Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2.

    I have 4 themes on this computer. I am trying to switch from Windows Classic theme to Windows XP theme, but it gives me the error for every option.

    Did you replace any system files in order to apply third-party themes?
