So i was on a hiking trip and my Cannon PowerShot SD850 IS took a fall off an 8 foot rock, onto...well... another rock.

The screen is thus demolished. I looked online and it looks like i could get a replacement screen for $50 and put it in myself, however, this is risky especially if there is something wrong with it that i am not currently noticing.

I'm thinking of using my renters insurance to get it replaced. It looks like I can get it replaced and all I have to do is pay a $25 dollar deductible. However, I've never claimed anything before and I'm wondering if this is going to fuck up my premiums or not allow me to claim anything else (I mainly bought it to cover my stereo and laptop.) Should I claim this thing or spend the $50 and try to fix it myself?

You can call your insurance company and ask them how it works. They won't change your account for just inquiring.

Call 'em and ask what the impact would be on your premiums and so forth. No one else can tell you what would happen if you claimed this.
