Overnight job ideas

Okay so I need a job, pretty much any job. I sleep during the day. I prefer working at night.

I've looked into being a night stocker at Wal-Mart and have applied at CVS pharmacy and Walgreens but I can't really think of any other 24 hour businesses around here (north Texas). What are some of the big names that I must be forgetting? Gas stations of course, but I'm really drawing a blank.

So what are some of the overnight jobs you guys (and gals) have had?

I don't know if this would be in your line of work, but agencies that deal with developmentally disabled adults may have grave shifts. One agency that I worked with I did the grave shift, and I just checked on the folks, helped them with whatever when/if they got up and so on. Also did housekeeping since there wasn't a whole helluva lot going on. Depending on the population your night may be quiet, maybe not.

    24 hour fast food joints.
Try and look for jobs at fruit and vege markets and the like, they normally start ~3 - 4am and go from there.
    Security jobs.
Many factories run 24/7, you may be able to get a night shift at one.

    Now I'm done for ideas.

I don't know if you include truck stops in your gas stations, so if not... look at a truck stop.

Any supermarkets in your area, even if they aren't 24/7 ones. Most hire overnight clerks to stock shelves, and it is a great way to earn some decent money without having to deal with customers.

If you don't mind working in a fastfood environment, you're in north Texas... WHATABURGER!

Just a heads-up, I did midnights at a CVS all last year, and it was a pretty good job.

I kept getting my hours raised, though, and all the drunks that started showing up during the summer kind of drove me to the edge. Both of my bosses transferred to other stores/positions, and I quit during the transition.

So yeah. Good job, pays alright, easy enough. There's a lot of shit to do at night, so on one hand you'll be occupied the entire time, but on the other hand you have to move fast, and you can't just lounge.

Bakers at Panera work from 10pm to 6am and make decent money. More than I make as a cashier/barista/bitch. And, at the ones around here at least, they're always looking for more. Most people don't last in the position (but if you're looking for the graveyard shift, you would!)

Or not Panera. It's just what I thought of because I work there. I mean there are other places that bake overnight I'm sure

HEB hires overnight clerks, as does United Supermarkets.

Mostly any large department store has a shelf-stocking overnight shift. Target, Wal-Mart etc. Any manufacturing company should, as well. If you avoid retail and small-scale service you should be able to find plenty of companies who have the shift you're looking for. In fact, the shift you're looking for should give you a touch of an edge over the swirling masses.

I had a good time working at Motorola assembling phones. I think they had just two shifts; mine was the 4am - 4pm.

You can do security work at a hospital, which usually has the added benefit of health insurance and a flashlight.

UPS has a late night shift for their distribution centers. In my area its from 10PM to 3AM Sunday through Thursday. They also have a 3AM to 9AM. It pays okay, but you get neat benefits like Tuition Reimbursement if you want to go to school and work at the same time.

To go off the Panera suggestion, most bakeries (any good ones, at least) will have people baking over night or really early in the morning. You could look into that, but it might be a recipe for obesity. Ooch, puns.

Newspaper delivery, though it's more like a super early morning job than an overnight job.

I did this many years ago. I just constantly unloaded trucks and threw packages onto conveyor belts. It stays nice and cool at night during the hot summer, but during winter......oh god does it suck balls. Either way it is a good workout, you get paid, and it flexible with school if you are still of that age.
