I couldn't think of a better name. For one, he's not actually a cat, that's his helmet. Anyways, this is a character for an upcoming short story going into an anthology.
I'll figure out his name soon enough.
and the sketch which I also liked

I'd say the head is way too big and makes the figure unbalanced (it isn't super-deformed enough to where it looks "right") Other than that, its a pretty decent job
I have a very hard time "super-deforming" as my brain is locked to realism, I have a hard time pushing my way out ... his body grew while I was drawing.
I'm trying to force myself to draw something different than my norm, so thus what we have here.
thanks, I'll keep at it. I also want to make it possible that he can realistically move around I guess - that's where I'm coming from. But, it's comics and I need to let go.

Well, if you want the body to be superdeformed, you really need to squish him down... and make him thicker.
yeah, it's basically an oversized helmet ... think
Oh, well... in that case, I might have to retract my statements earlier. It would be cool to have a picture with the helmet on and with the helmet off, for for comparison.
you're going to have to do something different for the eyes of the helmet
cause as they are now, unless his actual eyes are set really far apart on a really wide head, he wouldn't be able to see out of both of those at the same time.
I really like the feel of the art. The lines are nice. The character looks fun too.
The idea of walking around with a helmet that big on makes my head hurt; it would be awkward. As a cartoon though it's nifty. Reminds me of an 8 or 16 bit era mascot.
I'm just wondering if it's a helmet why does the skin color and spots on his arms match the ones on his helmet. o_O
Yeah that's what I was thinking. Is he a human person under the mask or a mini version of the mask? If the mask is not part of his body maybe it could have a different color scheme and not something that resembles skin/fur. More like metal or stone or wood.
Well, it's a suit ... like a costume. Like them thar comic books. His skin being exposed wouldn't be a good idea ... on other planets and in space. Should his costume not match his helmet?
I think your readers are going to have a hard time understanding it is a helmet from the get go. Unless you are going to put commentary to explain your artistic choices in drawing him.
I suggest finding a better solution to the helmet size. Because as it looks right now, without seeing any of your other art, it looks like a cheetah dude with a big fucking head. The texture on the 'helmet' doesn't help make it feel like a helmet. It looks too natural.
I think the 'suit' looks like his skin. It throws the whole thing off and again, makes it look like just a cheetah with a big head. If you're going to go with that pattern, repeat it elsewhere to make it less confusing, or get rid of it all together.
um. I was suprised when I scrolled down to read comments saying the giant head didnt read as a helmet.
I picked that up right away, pretty obvious the way the back of the head sticks out over the body and ends.. like a helemt. It doesnt shrink down into a tiny caricature like neck..

I think we're all used to seeing superdeformed characters so the head doesn't seem out of place in a comic book world.
It originally read like a helmet for me, but it matches the color of his arms, which look like his skin, not a sleeve or armor. I think that is what is confusing people. If it was more obvious his arms were not his skin, this could clear up some confusion. Also, you could have dents or scratches on the helmet to indicate it is artificial.
Ok. No skin pattern on the arms. will do. I understand how people are seeing that.
As far as the helmet, I think once people see no facial expressions or the mouth not opening or anything, people will understand it's a helmet.
Actually, it's supposed to almost be where people question "what is that? I giant cat head? or a helmet or what?" I wanted it a bit ambiguous upon first glance, then they start reading the story and realize it's a helmet. And then I want people to question "why is that helmet so big and why is it like a cheetah head?" ... I want people to be curious. I did try to imply some dings on the first pic, but maybe they weren't obvious ... I'll imply harder next time.
thanks for the comments. This is always a good place to help my stuff grow/evolve/refine.

To be honest i would say if you like prints on the arms keep them. It's a fun character, do what you want with him. Not everything needs to be explained, and a lot of times when they are it's lame.
I think the design is sweet. I love the colors and style, and would def give a comic or whatever with him in it a chance.

Yeah, his head fits snug into an internal helmet which basically has goggles (for lack of better words) that tap into the eyes.
I think I might change the name to Spaceman McCatterson
though ... maybe not.
Spacecat takes his helmet off for no one.
but ... here's a rough comparison of where his head would be. My proportions are also changing a bit here. I'll have to nail this down a bit more.
That way you don't have to change anything about the design and everyone has a good lol
