I finally got around to watching this after pilfering the DVD from a friend's room. I saw the pilot back when it first aired and remembered enjoying it, but I can't watch Adult Swim with any regularity.
Anyway this is like Family Guy with all the fat cut out. (I wonder if it being created by one of the FG cast members and McFarlane contributing frequently has anything to do with it)
Random pop culture jokes, not always brilliant, but clever and funny for the most part. Haphazard cutting between segments with a venegance. It's like they do away with the pretext of plot and character for the jokes, which are as good, and sometimes better than Family Guy when that show didn't suck as much as it does now.
Yeah, a show like this is going to be hit or miss. It isn't really possible to be consistently hilarious, but I think this is the show that Family Guy should be- undisciplined, random entertainment that doesn't make you want to pour vinegar in your eyes.

I know the material was going to run out eventually, but I think I preferred the first season more because of the use of the toy industry to make jokes. The second season explored more into doing shock skits and pop culture stuff, that IMHO was done better by other shows. I don't know.. it just lost its charm somewhat.

RC is one of my least favorite shows in the AS lineup. I just find it consistantly un-funny, but once in a while they'll do something absolutely hilarious, so it's at least worth watching
Ya hit and miss really is the best way to describe this. It has got some really awesome skits (like the most one-sided fist-fights caught on film) and some really lame ones. Generally though I find it awesome to watch simply because every once in a while they do come up with something incredibly awesome.

I find it unusual, given the sheer volume of shitty anime, Squidbillies, more shitty anime, Metalocalypse, even more shitty anime, that shitty parody of anime, 12 oz. Mouse, yet more shitty anime, etc., etc., etc., you'd select a show that is at least occasionally enjoyable as one of your least favorites.

ok... I just do? not sure what you want, I'm not saying it's the worst show on TV in general, not below par compared to most of the things you mentioned there.
can I assume shitty anime is: FLCL, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Eva, FMA, Lupin III?
I'll give you perfect hair forever, that probly WAS the worst show ever, but they canned it right quick
brings back memories of...not having very good short term memory for the night and being both amused and disturbed.

They're producing more Perfect Hair Forever.
But yeah. The one sided fist fights skit was actually something they produced years ago, and redid. I don't know if any of the second season skits were as long in the planning.

Lupin III isn't bad. Other than that, the good anime they do show is so truncated and censored that it makes it shitty.

Do they still air that stuff? I mean, c'mon you're talking about shows from 1998. Even if they do show them, I'm not sure it's...relevant?

FLCL is barely edited at all considering most of the "naughty parts" are subtle. Bebop, Trigun and FMA have some profanity blipped and thats pretty much it. EVA is goddamn terrible, but that's a different discussion. Lupin is probably the most heavily edited of all the shows listed.
Also, I can pretty much laugh at at least 1-2 skits for every episode of RC I watch. That's pretty good in my book.
EDIT: Super Milk Chan was the worst show ever. I could at least laugh at some parts of PHF, but goddamn was Chan so bad.
It could be just because it was a game based one. I would probably be amused by any.

You know, this probably better fits into a CN/AS discussion.. But I've been watching Adult Swim for about a year, year and a half now.. and I can visibly see a massive degredation in quality. I mean... the pilots are good, but something over there is changing. Other than a few anime choices that the fans need to practically rip down the doors at Turner Broadcasting to show, AS seems to absolutely suck at what programming they put on, and when.
I'll put it bluntly. I'm sick of cartoons that flash webcomics online can draw better, and with more humor.

Oh God.
Yeah, Milk Chan was awful.
oh lordy, I guess I didn't mention that because I had tried to permanently block it out of my memory.
As far as the recent quality goes, I am in love with metalocalypse, and frisky dingo can be pretty funny, but then assy mcgee debuted on the fix last night, and while I didn't watch it (I hate the new flash based fix setup) it got pretty mediocre viewer ratings, so I'm not hopeful
..plus it's a show about a talking ass

Sort of like almost all of their 15 minute shows of recent time (metalocalypse excluded.)

I Robot Chicken. I grew up watching all the TV shows and movies they parody, so I like all the little in-jokes. I also really like random humor and dark humor, so Robot Chicken is like my two favorite flavors mixed together.
"Your name is Sunny Muffins!" and The Neverending Party are gold.

every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.
I'm surprised at some of the Robot Chicken hate. Maybe because I just grew up with a lot of the TV and such that they parody, I get it more. Who knows, but its the damn best 11 minutes of TV on Sunday.
I personally couldn't get into Moral Orel, as fun as it is to make fun of extremist Christianity/Smalltown-religous-middle-American family, it isn't really... funny. It does have damn good animation though.
Frisky Dingo is also becoming one of my favorite AS shows, behind Robot Chicken of course. It takes a few eps to get into but its pretty good.
Tom Goes to the Mayor sucks. The best show on AS is Venture Bros., hands down.
Fixed that for you.

Guys, quoting each other back while changing the show you support does not a good conversation make. It's readily apparent that different parts of AS appeal to different people. Personally, I find Morel Orel to be over the top crap, that fails poorly as satire of religion and Christianity. Also, all the "favorite sketches" that people have mentioned are from Season 1, save one. That's not a good sign, IMHO.

FFVII burger, Lance Armstrong: Superpresident, Lil' Hitler, Weasel Stomping Day, Sunny Muffins, Inspector Gadget, Mario & Luigi in Vice City.
those are all from season 2.
The one which showed to me the heights that Robot Chicken could rise to was the Peanuts/Great Pumpkin skit. I was laughing the whole time, and then I started crying at the end.
Robot Chicken: Usually amusing, occassionally obnoxious, and on rare occassions, it's brilliant.
Venture brothers: an excellent show that isn't getting enough love.
Tom goes to the mayor: I can't say because I haven't seen it too much.
12 oz. mouse: There was an parady of this on an episode of the webseries Bonus Stage that more or less discribed this show perfectly:
Mouse: I just did something.
box-thing: What?
Mouse: ...I just wasted 15 minutes of America's time.
It's terrible. If it's "avant-guarde", then it's avant-guarde in the field of making terrible animation.
Aqua Teen hunger force:
I've seen only a couple episodes of the new season, but I like what I've seen so far. I'm kinda pissed that I missed the "wang" episode; it sounds wonderfully immature, which is all I really ask of the show anyways.
Anime in general:

Wait, did someone say they didn't like FLCL? that hey didn't like Cowboy Bebop?!?
These people are goin to have some words with Leroy and Ringo. And by that, I mean they are going to get punched by my right, and left arms, respectively. possibly with a knife. making it a knife-punch. a Knunch.
That said, alot of their anime does kinda blow. but you should revise your examples. like, how could you possibly omit the idiocy that is Inuyasha? that show is a scourge upon the face of all television.

My favorite one.
The show itself is very hit or miss, but it's good for a chuckle.

Tom Goes to the Mayor is a show that is not, has never, nor will ever be anything anywhere near "good." It is awful.
the "no true scotch man" fallacy.
Mildly fixed.
Robot Chicken and Moral Orel are the best stop-motion based shows of all time. The Moral Orel christmas episode last year touched me (Good touch).
I don't really like metalpocalypse, but I've only seen one and a half episodes of it, so there you go.
