So i have a virus trojan i think

not me personally but my wife's laptop
at least thats what i think it is as i ran disk diagnosis and found no errors
the last time i ran the virus scan it came up finding trojan.backdoor.generic something or another
which it said it deleted but i still have issues with the computer
can't get online with it
can't access any of the system tools including system restore
can't unistall programs don't know about installing.
my wife said she couldn't get it to acknowledge her usb drives but the cd drive works
i have never had to deal with this before so any help would be appreciated
