Chromehounds: Still Alive?

I'm curious if anyone still plays Chromehounds.

I didn't actually get a 360 until a little over a year ago, so I missed out on Chromehounds at launch, even though it was almost enough to sell me a system by itself.

Right after I got my 360, I bought a copy of Chromehounds, but I scratched it about a week later, and the bloody thing didn't work anymore. So, I never got much of a chance to try out the online modes, although they looked awesome.

I recently got another copy of the game, and have started playing through the single player again, to unlock gear and get some practice so I can go online and hopefully avoid embarrassing myself too much.

But, you know, this isn't MechWarrior on the PC with the diehard fans. It's a little-known game on the 360. So I'm wondering: is the online mode even functional anymore? Does anyone play at all? I know it's pretty heavily clan-based...

A year ago I popped it back in and took a look, the community was pretty small at that point, but there were still games going on.

While it was a fun game, it suffered due to badly balanced designs dominating the online matches, and the devs/publisher trying to nickle and dime everyone on weapon unlocks.
Also the community got a little smaller every time a armored core sequel came out.

I played it with some guys from work when it first came out, was a ton of fun for quite awhile.

    That's... depressing.

I've been looking for a decent multiplayer mech sim ever since MechWarrior 4, and this is really the only thing to come along in 7 years.

Sorry for the derail, but how is the amored core game on live?

First game I bought for my 360, played it for hours with PAers.

It made me love my 360 from day 1.

There are still games to be had online. Me and a few friends pop it in from time to time and usually don't have too much trouble finding a game. You can always play against CPU opponents as well. If you have a few people interested in playing with you the game is awesome.

I <3 me some Chromehounds. I keep hoping for a sequel even though I doubt it will ever happen.

Oddly I have both AC games for the 360 and haven't put hardly anytime into either of them. I actually preferred Chromehounds.

I want this game to get a sequel so bad. The community had dwindled quite a bit but there are still players doing there thing. Must fun mech customization I have had in a while.

Back when they game came out and I was playing with PAers I made a huge Cross mech with all of two machine guns, It was slow as hell, but it was way to much fun to shoot at people from a mobile armed crucifix.

I had both AC games, too. The online was, on the whole, non-existent. It was hard to find any game during US prime time.

I guess I'll go ahead with Chromehounds. I've enjoyed what I've played so far quite a bit.

What is the deal with the imbalanced mechs? Is it just everyone using piles? Wouldn't they just get picked apart at long range?

Piles became unpopular. Shotguns got OP, and shotgun karts became the prefered method. Can manuever fast enough to kill people before being killed, and shotguns could take down bases almost as fast as piles, from range no less.

I've been interested in this for a while but had heard that the SP was worthless and the learning curve was vertical for breaking into the hardcore community that remained online. If anyone else is thinking of giving this a try I might jump in at some point.

Did shotguns actually get OP, or did people just figure it out?

No, they got OP. Anyone could use them and rape.

Wait, are you saying the game has bots? Me and some mates are looking for a good co-op sort of game now that RB6 is wearing thin, and Chromehounds would be perfect. How'd it play with, say, 3-4 players? I've heard it doesn't support proper system link, but we've all got gold accounts, so that's not a problem.

This would get my interest too. Co-op is the awesomest and I'd love to build me a mecha-death machine for coop action.

If you can't find human opponents it gives the option to start a match vs. cpu. The bots are a lot easier than a decent human opponent but it can still be a fun time. It is on par with terrorist hunts in R6 with the added fun of customizing your mechs.

To rephrase my question, was something about shotguns actually changed, or did people just figure out they were good, and then everyone piled onto the shotgun bandwagon?

Crap-damn! If they'd advertised the fact, I'd have probably bought it at launch!

I'm going to see if I can pick a couple of copies up myself now, so we can give it a test run. How's it play out? Progressive waves, clear-out-the-level or are they proper, respawning bots?

I really, really miss the old days of Mechwarrior: Mercenaries. As a result, I'm always on a the lookout for a cool mech game. Is there a really stellar one out there I don't know about? Or is Chromehounds that game?

It is just like playing vs humans. If you bring 4 the enemy team will have 4. Wipe them out or destroy the base to win. You still earn money and your victories still count towards the war effort. It is pretty sweet.

Does it have split screen co-op or just XBL co-op? Millions upon millions of yuppies in the metro DC area and I'm the only guy with a 360. :|

Apples and oranges man. Chromehounds is slower paced than AC. I also much prefer the garage in Chromehounds, AC's is kind convoluted. Some people swear by AC though. You should be able to find them both for very cheap now, so the answer is clear. Buy them both.

I love the game. and would be up to play it anytime. just add me to friends lists and msg me.

but dear god do I hate the whole squad thing. the limits on squad size, having to have someone already in the squd just be sitting in the lobby to be able to apply to them. not being able to just jump into a game with some strangers.

Great game, just can be a bit of a pain to get everyone on at a certain time to play.

I wish a sequel could be made that fixed the whole squad system. just having a way to get into a match with 5 random people vs. 6 other random people would fix most of the complaints I have.

There was a patch that changed the balance of shotguns.
