Cat pee, cat pee, cat pee...

My girlfriend has a cat. She loves it to death, she rescued it from the highway a year or two ago. Recently she has been peeing on her bed. Its becoming a bit of a problem, she has done it twice in two nights just now.

Please help, we love the lil thing to death, my gf cleans the litter box every day.. we dont know why the cat is doing this. She eats normally, sleeps, poops properly. She hasnt been fixed yet and went into heat about a month ago... is this possibly the cause?

What can we do? Should we condition the cat somehow? Spray Amomnia on the bed? Spray the cat with water (i dont know how to link this positive punishment with her bad behaviour).

Help us H/A, youre our only hope

Sounds like kitty's jealous. She's trying to get attention from someone, but her owner's been busy elsewhere.

Give her attention every so often. Show that you're a friend and she ought to stop.

Agreed - probably just jealous of you.

Get some toys, play with her. Make sure your GF plays too; my (now wife's) GF's cat likes me more because I played with him so much when I was at her place.

If she loves the cat, she needs to fucking spay it.

    That aside.

If it's a recent development, what's changed in the past two days? New litter? New food?

I would suggest talking to the vet. Sometimes animals will act out like that if they are sick. They use that to get your attention. My dog before we had to put him down started doing things like that. Never in 7 1/2 years did he pee in the house and then one day he peed all around the couch while we were there, he crapped in the kitchen, started to tear things up. We thought maybe he was jealous (we had just had a baby a few months prior), or in his old age was going senile. It was bone cancer and our vet said that is commn fr an animal that doesn't usuall behave like that will do that stuff to try to get your attention since they can't tell you 'hey something is wrong'.

If it were a boy cat, not being fixed could definitely be the reason for such behavior. I don't know about girl cats but even if it doesn't fix this particular problem spaying the cat is an excellent idea.

Cats are really good at not showing any signs of being sick until they are really really sick. Whenever my cat gets UTI's she goes from being great to peeing on anything soft (laundry, blankets, towels, bathmats) in one day. Other signs of UTI's include: going to the litterbox often, squatting to urinate without the urine, painful urination (cat will meow or yowl while peeing), and bloody urine. If the cat is showing any of these signs, take her to the vet pronto.

Hopefully, she just needs a bit more attention and is not sick. Does she do it when people are home or only when alone?

Yes, spaying might help and is a very good idea anyway. It's much healthier for female cats in general not to have to go into heat. While the cat is at the vet, also have it checked for UTIs. Like everyone else said, they're very common in cats and make them pee like crazy.
As for the mattress, get an enzyme-based cleaner like Nature's miracle to really get rid of the piss. It's really the best thing for cleaning up after animals and it's safer for them and you, especially on something you all sleep on.

I dont think the cat is jealous of me, she loves me. The cat also receives buttloads of attention, i mean buttloads. Shes a whiny lil thing. Nothing much has recently changed, except she went into heat a few weeks ago, and now she goes around rubbing herself weird on the floor and is louder than usual. Doesnt sound like pain.. maybe horny. We're getting her fixed today, we'll see how it goes.

Every time I see a cat, I'm like "Hey cat! I petcha face!" and then I pet it right in the face. Sometimes I also whip the cat with a ribbon like I'm Simon Belmont and it's, like, Dracula Cat.

It's probably just due to her not being spayed then. Females also spray when in heat. She should probably stop after she's been spayed.

On the subject of death and daemons disappearing: arrows sure are effective in Lyra's universe. Seems like if you get shot once, you're dead - no lingering deaths with your daemon huddling pitifully in your arms, just *thunk* *argh* *whoosh*. A battlefield full of the dying would just be so much more depressing when you add in wailing gerbils and dogs.
