NPR's alt guy had the best music of 2006 being the following (in order I guess):

    10. Lupe Fiasco: Food and Liquor
    9. The Coup: Pick A Bigger Weapon
    8. Neko Case: Fox Confessor Brings the Flood
    7. Juana Molina: Son
    6. Comets on Fire: Avatar
    5. Toumani Diabate's Symmetric Orchestra: Boulevard De L'Independance
    4. Joanna Newsom: Ys
    3. Cat Power: The Greatest
    2. TV On the Radio: Return to Cookie Mountain
    1. Gnarls Barkley: St. Elsewhere

The NPR listener poll had the following:

    10. Regina Spektor: Begin to Hope
    9. Tom Waits: Orphans
    8. Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins: Rabbit Fur Coat
    7. Cat Power: The Greatest
    6. Joanna Newsom: Ys
    5. TV On the Radio: Return to Cookie Mountain
    4. M. Ward: Post War
    3. Bob Dylan: Modern Times
    2. Neko Case: Fox Confessor Brings the Flood
    1. The Decemberists: The Crane Wife

Actually a pretty tasteful list considering that call-in polls almost always swing around to Billboard top-20 shit or crap new country.

Did anyone listen to the new M. Ward album? It's gotten high marks and a top place on a bunch of lists, but I haven't actually heard it.

I'm still fairly shocked Game Theory isn't being talked about more. That album was pretty incredible to me. The Roots really might be making music for the future, we'll see.

An album that really stode out for me this year was lostprophets' (that is the correct capitalisation I will have you know) Liberation Transmission. I bought it without any prior knowlege than their previous albums, and it just floored me. It's one of those ones where I get annoyed that the song's I like best were not released as singles. The whole thing is structured nicely, and the opener, Everyday Combat, is now one of my favourite songs ever.

Pity they started wearing those daft emogoth uniforms...
Oh jesus. Go out and buy Start Something and stop your love for that sell-out album immediately. It's really very very shitty compared to anything else they've done. It's totally gay. What is wrong with you, etc.

I've owned Start Something since day of release, I got Fake Sound pretty shortly after it came out too, and I would say FSoP was better than Start. To clarify, I didnt know anything about the new album prior to owning it, but I already had, and loved, their previous ones.

THey are all great for different reasons.
You're some sort of abomination. I can't listen to their new cd. It's so sell-out emo bull shit that I cried when I listened to it to weep for the death of the band.

Not financially of course, they're bound to make loads of money.
