Though to whoever said so earlier, I agree: Starting a new game with all of the DLC+Expansions and a few mods is overwhelming. Every five feet someone approaches me about something important or I get a letter about how I inherited a house :|

How do they all know me?

thats why you get that mod that stops that and integrates the dlc into the world properly instead of getting letters.

Hmm. In Morrowind, I've run into a slight snag with my Spellsword. When attempting to remake the starter spells that I came with, but with different names in order to better sort them in my spell list, I found that the spellmaker spells I make (a version of Fire Bite, in this case: identical damage, 15-30 on touch) cost double or more than the default. Is this right, or is there a mod I have somewhere that's messing with it?

The only mods I have that could I could think of possibly messing with spellmaking are the Code Patch (however, disabling the Spellmaking alterations it does has no effect in game), the Unofficial Patch, and Galsiah's Character Development. I haven't read anything in the latter two that would indicate any spellmaking changes though.

w00t! Finally found and got into the thieves guild in Oblivion.

I really, really like Bravil. It's got lots of staircases and the architectural style looks like it was ripped right out of Morrowind, unlike many of the more horizontal cities.

Agreed. I've had a lot of fun just jumping around that place.

Question: I've got the Better Cities mod installed and a couple others- is there any way to remove all of the "A MESH IS MISSING HERE" giant yellow caution signs that appear whenever (duh) a mesh is missing? I honestly don't notice when something is slightly the wrong color, but it really is getting annoying to see these gigantic yellow signs everywhere.

**Never mind. I am victorious! http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22848

Unfortunatly that is how the game works with spells you make costing more to cast than shop bought ones. There are mods that address this I believe.

Do you happen to know of any? PES searches aren't turning up anything.

Edit: Apparently the reason for this is that having a duration of 1 or 2 seconds on a spell that doesn't normally rely on a duration to be effective (like a Shield or Water Walking or something) doubles the magicka cost, but since you can't lower something to a 0 second duration, all Destruction, Restoration, and Mysticism spells will have ridiculously high casting costs. Such a shame.

My endurance is red. Its at 24 too which is way lower than it should be. I haven't got any active spell effects diminishing it so there's noreason for it to b e so low. I also can't seem to advance in the Mages Guild. In order to reach the rank of Conjurer I need one skill at 40 and another two to be at 10. However, I have all the schools of magic skills set at above 25 with a couple over 40. I've also done all the jobs set out by the guild heads at Balmora and Ald-ruhn.

Have you tried going to one of the healing chapels or drinking a 'restore endurance' potion? (I don't mean the last one as a piss take, there's certain spells in the game which can reduce your stats until you get divine healing or drink restore potions)

Fucking bonelords or whatever they were and their 'drain strength' attack pissed me off so many times in Morrowind.

In Morrowind I tend to make a cheapo Restoration spell that restores every stat 1-5 points for 1 second; that costs like 4 mana, and I just cast it repeatedly as needed until stats normalise.

The stat thing wasn't to much of a biggie since I figured it was something silly like the after-effect of a spell, I just assumed that the 'drain X skill' was temporary so it threw me off. It's fine now courtesy of a restore endurance potion, though as my luck would have it..... I got hit by another dodgy spell and this time my strength AND endurance were hit D:

The Mage Guild thing is really bugging me out though. I slogged through a bunch of bulshit only to find out I can't advance anymore?! Fuck you Bethesda, FUCK YOU!

If you're on the PC, you can grab the Code Patch, which makes it so you don't have to unequip your gear and reequip it in order for restore attributes/stats to work properly.

Right here. It also fixes a litany of other problems, like merchants auto-equipping anything of real value that you sell them, or Unarmored requiring you to wear a piece of armor in order to get the Unarmored bonus, and stuff like that. It even comes with a test cell right outside the Seyda Neen census office to showcase the changes. It also has the option to increase spellmaking magnitude limits to 1000, for spells like Feather and such.

The only "bad" thing is that if you have the Mercantile bug fix enabled, you can pretty much fleece most merchants that don't have high Mercantile (which is the vast majority of them - most of them have Mercantile skills that are single digits) of all their gold very, very easily with incredibly low Mercantile. My Thief did it with as low as 30.

If he's playing a Mage-style class and (probably) a mage-style race without mods to significantly alter the requirements for advancement in a guild, he likely met the Attribute requirements way back at level 1.

Isy, when you ask for advancement, what do the guild people say? Do they say something about need to do more tasks, or needing to build up your skill?

Basically I don't meet the requirements needed to reach the status of Conjurer. I've looked this up already though and I'm way above what is needed. All my mage-related skills are above 25 with two above the 40's. And the willpower and intelligence are at around the 40-60 mark.

NOt all the 'magic' skills are actually used by the Mages Guild. Mouse over your Mage Guild Rank on your character screen. It will list all the skills that it checks:
    By default they are:

    Alchemy
    Alteration
    Destruction
    Enchant
    Illusion
    Mysticism

If you have any of these skills at the level they require, you should be able to get advanced to the next level (assuming you have done enough quests ofc)

Note that Conjuration and Restoration are not included.

While the console will allow you to advance that one rank - you'll need to keep cheating for all the other ranks unless oyu can genuinely increase the listed stats and skills to meet the Guild Requirements for advancement.

Restoration and Conjuration are required for other factions, if you want to emphasise those you should probably go join another faction, and return to the Mages Guild when you have enough money to train another skill to match their requirements

I would like to take a moment to thank Microsoft for helping me overcome my Elder Scrolls problem.

Similar to my Grand Theft Auto problem, I generally find there's just so much to do that I get paralyzed and lose interest quickly. Luckily, the Achievements in Oblivion provide guideposts of a sort and help me get through the whole thing. I'm finally starting the main questline (after finishing all of the guild questlines) and really enjoying everything.
