Cutting chunks out of audio

Simple question really. how would I go about cutting bits of the audio out of an mp3 file?

Cause i've got this song with awesome instrumental bits to it, but I have the singing and lyrics to it, so I need to get rid of them.

any help about how I could do this?

Do you mean chopping entire lengths of the song out? or taking individual instruments out, while the instruments you want to keep are playing? One is much easier than the other.

    Use audacity:

    http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Load up your song, select the bits you don't want and delete them. The only thing you'll need to be careful of is where you make your cuts.

If you also need to keep the timing, you can also select the area you want and hit "Silence".

To re-save it as MP3 you'll also need to download the LAME encoder dll, they have hand-holding instructions on how to do that on their site.

I have a demo version of GoldWave, which I've been using for similiar tasks.

    Will have to try Audacity.
