Just received a $20 gift card and I wanted to try out a new genre. I've narrowed my search down to racing and decided on the Burnout series because of it's more arcade styling. Please keep in mind the last racing game I have purchased was Toy Story Racer (PSX). It's been a while and I'm not trying to take-on anything to serious, I'm just trying to have something keep my attention longer then 20 minutes.
I am keen on the 360 but will opt for oXbox if there is something better to start off with. No need for BWC, I have my oXbox still hooked up. Just looking for the best game of the series ...
There was a point where I would have said Burnout 3, but the developers of Burnout Paradise have done an excellent job of updating and maintaining their game. I can safely recommend Paradise to just about anyone, it's that good.

Burnout Paradise. Go get it. It's fantastic.
I agree, Burnout Paradise is absolutely fantastic but you can't go wrong with any burnout game.
It's also only $20 and (if you have a PS3 if can be bought via PSN so there's no need for those pesky discs).
I'd stay away from Revenge on the 360 even if you find it cheap - it's brutally hard and since Paradise came out I imagine the online community is pretty well dead and gone.

This. Just about every major complaint I had at release (not being able to retry races was the big one) has been addressed through updates. Paradise is easily one of the best 360 games I've owned.
I actually liked Revenge, a lot than what little I played of Paradise, anyway. I'm not a fan of open-world games in general, and I prefer the more fast-and-loose siloed nature of Revenge.
That said, I'm sure Paradise is worth the $20 or $30 it's down to nowadays, so I don't think you can go wrong with either one. Just note that you can grab a Paradise demo on 360 but it's a very locked, limited version of the game and doesn't really paint that part accurately.
Burnout Paradise it is because of the 'ol Need for Speed:Hot Pursuit (PSX) section that will be coming out. I was kind of inbetween Burnout 2 or 3 but I think these referrals and this referance sealed the deal.

very good choice, but I would recommend to eventually pick up Burnout Paradise as well.
Revenge has been my favorite, but now that I have a 50" HDTV and my 360 is back from repairs, I'll be giving Paradise the fair shake it deserves. It was just unplayable on a 32" SDTV. 480i is not a friend of that game.

LIZ: Different.
VOICE-OVER: It's September 24th, I'm Liz Parker and five days ago I died. But then the really amazing thing happened. I came to life.
