Hard Drive Recovery?

WhatToThinkWhatToThink Registered User regular
So my friend...somehow....accidentally  reinstalled windows on her laptop. She called HP and they told her all her files, pics songs docs, were gone. I was wondering if anyone knew if i could just use PhotoRec from here http://www.sysresccd.org/Main_Page to get at least her pics back. Also, if there is any other tool that would work better I would love some suggestions, thanks for help!

    A quick freebie: http://www.recuva.com/

I would imagine she is out of luck on most of her files if she accidentally formatted and then accidentally reinstalled her copy of windows. It is worth a shot though. You may want to tell her to stop installing or downloading things, it will cause more files to become unrecoverable as the drive uses the space.

Yeah. You may be right. I haven't used it on a formatted machine. Assuming your friend did quick format, I'd imagine the files should still be there... somewhere.

Try R-Studio. It has saved my bacon a few times. http://www.r-studio.com/
