Birthday Ideas for a Birthday boy.

My boyfriend's birthday is coming up in August. I know it's many months away, but I like to be prepared, especially since I'm planning an elaborate gift.

Now, every year for christmas, he hides my gift around the house, and I must find it using a series of clues he ALSO hid around the house. I LOVE it, because it makes christmas so much fun, and makes it last so much longer (rather than opening presents within an hour and calling it a day. It usually takes me like 3 hours to find his present, which is always magnificent)..

Now, I would like to do that, only up it a bit for him. Hiding stuff around the house is fine and dandy for me, but for him it's way too easy. SO, what I have in mind is a little geocache hunt that I made my self.

If you're not familiar with geocaching --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geocaching

I've geocached before, and it's all sorts of fun, and though my boyfriend never has done it, it involves hiking, "treasure", hunting for things, and GPS, all of which he enjoys.

The problem I'm having is planning. Not only do I not know a decent place to lead him to as the end of the cache, but, I don't know what should be there. I'm not sure what gift I should give. I was thinking of getting him a cool gadgety item, something useful (cause he's all about use. Not silly things), and fairly small so it can fit in a waterproof container so I can hide it. I've tried to find some things online, but my google-foo has failed me, so I thought I could ask you guys.

Here's a list of things he likes:
-martial Arts (he's a 3rd degree black belt)
-Star Wars (specifically boba fett)
-LEGO (holy crap, he loves LOVES lego...but I'm not sure what star wars set to get him. He likes the OLD versions, I know that, but I don't know where to find them, and they probably cost an arm and a leg)
-pizza? haha (no seriously, he'd eat it every day if I didn't cook)

Also, on top of that, i'd like the geocache to be exciting for him. So, I want it to be a 'multicache' kinda, where I give him one coordinate, and he goes there, and he finds a clever clue (maybe like a riddle that would give him another hint where the next cache is hidden) with more coordinates, but...i'm not good with riddles...or clever clues at all.

Is this even a good idea to begin with? I want to wow his pants off.

edit: Is anybody familiar with some really nice spots in Orange County, NY

Thanks!

Coming from a fellow Boba fan, I can offer up some insight on this one:

    1. get him something airbrushed with the Boba insignia on it, or maybe even a gift card for him to get a Boba-oriented tattoo if he's into that sort of thing. I have an airbrushed Boba motorcycle helmet and it's considered art by me!

    2. There are people out in the world who do custom action figures- you could have one made with the Boba body, and the head to be sculpted like your boyfriend's, and these folks can even put it on a card and bubble so it looks like it actually came from Kenner-Hasbro etc.

Hope those ideas help some- PM or email me if you'd like more info, and good luck!

Is there anywhere you can rent a locker in your area? That way the main present can be located in the locker, safe and dry. The things you can hide are the locker key and the locker directions. It gives you leeway on the present size as well.

Elin-the only locker area I know of is in our local bowling alley, and we frequent that place so often.

Shogun-Oh man, that hoodie is rockin'.

I don't know if HE'D wear it (he's kind of a plain sort of guy), but I sure as hell would.

Vintage Gamer- Oh I LOVE the action figure idea, and awesomely enough, I just learned how to make toys, too!

Keep on bringing on the ideas, they're great!

Alyce, that would actually be perfect. After he found the key your final clue could be a riddle. "The key to your quest resides where we "obscure but meaningful reference to fun you had at the bowling alley."

Or you could get your friends/relatives into it as well. Have everything he find be a riddle about your relationship. "Remember when we did this, person X thought this was awesome." He remembers who person x is, calls that person and they give him more coords to find.

Or, take a picture of the final gift hide place. It could even be in your house. Take that picture and make it into a puzzle. Geocashe the puzzle pieces separately. Once he finds them all he can put the pieces together and go to the present.

Holy crap, I knew making a thread about this would be a good idea.

Elin- The puzzle idea is PERFECT. We don't really use the lockers ever (I don't even think he knows they're there), so it would be obscure enough for him to think about it instead of him being all "AH HA!". And then we could have a nice evening of bowling (which he looves)

This is getting me all hyped up. Now I just gotta think of areas around Orange County, NY to place several geocaches, gather the coordinates.

This beats the shit out of the last two birthdays (2 years ago, I took him to Ninja, NY. An AMAZING ninja themed japanese restaurant in down town NYC. He went berserk. And last year I organized a get together with his family, and we all chipped in money so he could get a tattoo he's been wanting to get. )

I knew a girl in college who wrapped herself in a 6-ft length of wide red ribbon for her boyfriend's birthday. Treasure hunt? Bugger that.
