AUSTIN, TEXAS (Reuters) - After months of speculation on the exact details of Apple's new hardware, code named Blaine, CEO Steve Jobs unveiled today during a keynote speech at electronics and hardware trade show TexTech a prototype of a new generation of Apple portable computers.
"What you are about to see represents months of ground breaking research into both cutting edge manufacturing materials and a major refinement of propulsion technologies" announced Jobs during the presentation. He went on to explain that "the predominant material used in the manufacturing of our new hardware is a honeycomb alloy consisting of extremely lightweight metals and lighter than air gas which gives it a near neutral air buoyancy at sea level". A short video was then shown of engineers doing field experiments at a beach with a piece of the alloy cut into a disc which appeared to virtually float when thrown from one engineer to the next.
"Over 90% of our prototype is constructed from this alloy. The next innovation comes from harnessing the naturally occurring magnetic fields generated by the electronics inside a laptop. By reconfiguring the motherboard and other components we have been able to increase the overall safe voltage running through the system whilst simultaneously enhancing the magnetic field." At this point, the new computer, which appeared to look otherwise like any other macbook, was unveiled, appearing to hover above the podium. Jobs continued to explain "The ultra-lightweight materials combined with the repulsive forces of the magnetic field being generated results in a new computer, one which doesn't need a desk, or a lap, or a palm to support it but which supports it's own weight, levitating a safe level above any surface".
The new computer has been dubbed a nulltop by Apple. Whilst exact hardware specifications are unconfirmed it is expected that they will go to market sometime in 2010.
This is nothing short of incredible. My older brother is a magnetic propulsion engineer who has been working for Apple on creating the first prototypes and he brought one around tonight to have a look at. Now that it's official the NDA has been lifted. The first prototypes are basically just retooled PowerBooks but are completely functional. We had it connected to my wifi network and went online with it. Typing is kind of weird but comfortable, the laptop 'gives' slightly as you type absorbing a bit of the impact without hitting the desktop. It looks like a bit of a hulk but when you lift it it's unbelievable light. I kind of wondered what in the world the point in it was but it makes sense if you are somewhere where you wouldn't have a clear, balanced surface to use it on and if nothing else it's weight makes it unbeatable if you are on tour a lot.
Not to be outdone by tech giant Apple. Chrysler has announced the creation of the first "hover car". Chrysler spokesperson Hugh Jedick informs us that it is "the wave of the future" and "will make every person stuck driving a normal car sick with envy."

So many more things would be more useful if they could float.
Teefs wins the prize.
The prize is

Szech all is forgiven
I am puking already.
wonderful

it cracks me up that some are still asking for proof when you can fucking see desktop hulk in the second pic
I love me so much, how dare you outdo me, szech
