Hey guys right now I have one of the older generation Intel Macbooks I've been thinking about selling it to get a Mac Mini, but I can't make up my mind. Are the new Mac Mini's alot better, I've been wanting a new desktop computer for awhile now and can't afford a iMac or Mac Pro I still like having a laptop but with these rumors that Apple is indeed releaseing their own netbook soon I know that I'm going to want to get one, so I wouldn't need my Macbook after that anyway...

I have a friend willing to pay like $500 for my macbook which is almost enough for me to just go out and get one of the new mac minis. all i would need to get is the wireless keyboard and a TOSlink adpater to hook it up to my reciever and i would be all set.

What do you mean by 'better' in this case? Why do you want to make the switch?

I think we need more info about what you use your computer for, and how you use it, to give any sort of educated recommendation :)

It entirely depends on what you'll be using the desktop for.

Unless you intend to play lots of games, you are unlikely to see a huge performance jump switching to a mini, and you will lose the portability of the laptop. The rumors of Apple's netbook are just that- rumors.

I don't intend on using to play games at all (thats what my xbox is for) but basically its just going to be a computer, I fool around with web design once and awhile and want to try to get into graphics design and what not, not to mention it would fit better in my entertainment center as my DVD player and such too...

and the rumors are pretty good for this netbook apparently... the company that makes the touch screen for the iphone has gotten orders for a 10" version of it for a computer.

I don't see what your new computer would be able to do that your old computer can't except for cram inside your entertainment center. If that's enough of a difference for you to pay the price to switch, go ahead, but I think a cheap DVD player might serve you better.
