Hi, I have been trying to amend some word documents today but when I try to edit them it says at the bottom that they cannot be modified because the document is locked. Not only that, but even brand new documents are locked and I cannot type anything even on a blank page. I'm not sure how this occured and don't know how to stop it.
Don't know how to review, but when I go to tools everything is shaded (including protect) except letters and mailing, languages, online collaboration and macros.

With some editions you can docs, but not edit/create. Essentialy a "trial" version.
Check under Help -> About Ms Office to see if there's a seriel key and/or info on registering.
Is the document on a network drive? It does that if someone else has it open at the same time.
Alternatively, there's a feature that stops anyone from editing without a password. I usually just make my changes, "Save as" changing the filename, then delete the original and rename the one that I edited.
on about word it says it is registered to me and gives me product ID, so I am already registered.... Oh wait, no its sorted. Yeah it was asking me to activate it. Dunno why, i've had it working for ages.
I just kept ignoring the 'activate over internet message' because I thought it was something to do with Norton. Oh well, thanks guys. Um... thread lock now I guess?
