So my credit card was expiring this month -- today I updated it, through my bank's website and all was good. I thought I'd try out my updated card and bought an album online.
However, I forgot to update PayPal with my new credit card information... in fact I realized this right after my PayPal went payment went through. My previous card was not technically expired (end of month)... but I'm guessing it became inactive when I updated it through my bank.
So I think PayPal charged this previous card which was probably inactive since I updated it. I updated my card info in PayPal right after I realized I made the error. I emailed PayPal to ask them what was up, but I was wondering if anyone here would know what would most likely occur.
Microsoft successfully charged me with a year of live with an expired card. They even sent me an e-mail telling me my card was expired. Two days later I got another e-mail saying I had a year of Live.
I was hoping to do this exact thing in a few months. The card has been expired (and was renewed) for a very long time now.
The numbers are different so how would this work?
By all means my old card should be completely dead.

yeah, blame the CC companies
Amex has a "Service" where they'll continue to put charges through a card even after it's been canceled... and send you one off bills notifying you of this
KF, you should be fine, normally while a card is 'expired', it still sends the information to the bank which has your account information and will probably just transfer the charge to the new card and tell you that you tried to charge an old card.
a good way to make sure they do this is to call them up (little number on the back of your card) and ask them about it.
I just switched to a new CC number too. What happened with me is that they allowed charges on the old number for 30 days (so that recurring payments I have set up won't be disrupted) and forwarded those to the new credit card.

So my experience that they still go through.
