Hey! Watch my Resident Evil marathon.
Remember how some people did these Zelda and Mario live marathons? Wasn't that pretty awesome? Well, the idea here is the same, only with Resident Evil.
Starting next Friday, March 20th 2009, and through the week-end, some friends and I will be hosting a live webcast where we will play through the entire canon Resident Evil series, including the just-released RE5!
Obviously, we're doing this for charity (well, for charity and
awesome). So there's this link on our blog where any viewer will be able to donate to Child's Play for the duration of the marathon, making this the most charitable zombie-killing event
in the history of zombies (that I'm aware of).
For the record, the idea got started when my roommate suggested we should have a grandiose weekend-long Resident Evil marathon with all the friends we can sucker into coming to celebrate for the release of RE5. Then that evolved into a live-webcast marathon, which then evolved into a charity live-webcast marathon.
Astute minds will observe that RE5 came out yesterday. The plan was originally to start yesterday, but we moved it forward a week when concerns rose over the possibility of acquiring RE5 in time for this week-end. Then the concerns turned out to be unfounded, because we got it yesterday without a problem. But we're still doing it next week because well it's a little late to start now isn't it. As an added bonus, that gives you all some time to finish RE5 before watching us and being totally spoiled,
so get to it.
So the games we'll be playing are, in that order:
-Resident Evil Zero
-Resident Evil (GameCube remake)
-Resident Evil 2
-Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
-Resident Evil CODE: Veronica X
-Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles (this one might be cut out if we realize we won't have time to finish the series)
-Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
-Then we'll take a break and watch Degeneration, time permitting
-Resident Evil 5
Yes, we will be playing both Umbrella Chronicles and RE5 in co-op. Yes, we have a gorgeous HDTV to broadcast all of this on. The versions of the games we'll be playing will all be the GameCube ones where applicable, and the 360 version of RE5. Yes, we're aware that RE2 and 3 will look like crap on an HDTV. No, we don't particularly mind. And finally, yes,
they're making a sequel to Umbrella Chronicles set during RE2 and that is tits-awesome.
[strike]The webcam feed and chatroom will be embedded in this OP once the event starts so you'll be able to watch it right here.[/strike]You'll just have to go to my blog then!

I wish you the best of luck, and I look forward to checking it out!
But
a) Good luck trying to find it
and
2) Good luck trying to play it. (It was a light gun game where you couldn't use a light gun. WTF?)
EDIT: Also, how do you plan on playing RE2? Leon A/Claire B or Claire A/Leon B (which I think has more story connectivity)?
Having to watch someone else play it would simply be cruel and unusual punishment.
Jill in RE1, ClaireA/LeonB in RE2, being that those are the canon paths.
I really like the Resident Evil games, but all the backtracking grates on my nerves. I think that's why I love RE4 and RE5 so much.
Also, Resident Evil has always scared me kinda bad. I have the toughest time moving forward in those games for fear of getting jumped by dogs. But I beat Fatal Frame II and III so I think I can keep my man card.
Oh look at you, taking pretty pictures of ghosts, how manly. :P
It takes true courage to take on an army of the undead with just a camera.
Excuse me but I prefer my instruments of undead retribution to represent my penis, thank you.
...You fight off the undead with a banana? You are a brave man.
(please note I avoided the very easy small penis joke available here)
Thank you for not mentioning my tiny phallus.
Also, if I remember correctly the Zelda guys failed, but they did get really close. Good luck to you guys.
I shut it off partway through.
I'd skip it.
My friends and I placed bets for donation on where you might quit. And I got money on you going through them all, so don't let me down.
My friends, in fact, have much thicker accents than mine. :P
I'm going to miss the event, but would love to see all these as a massive let's play.
No, I don't think it'll be available for download, sorry. :P
Haha, awesome.
You know, I kind of wish you guys were playing Dead Aim, just because of the extra insanity of that story, but I guess it's non canon or anything so that's cool.
If you've played the game before and know what you're doing, four can be done in a few hours, too. Hell, with the continue points and such, they don't even have to worry as much about dying/continuing.
Can't speak for five.
BONEsaw is REHDEEEEEEE
for this awesome Marathon.
Mostly excited for RE3 and RE:CV run throughs. Hi-def is going to be fun.
You'd go to use the bathroom and find the door locked with some sort of statue shaped key, then spend the next three hours searching through the basement and sewers trying to find the fucking statue. You'll probably need a special key with for the basement, then some sort of turn crank to get into the sewers.
A single day of Resident Evil was enough to fuck me up. For once, I want to play a game where when you're sent for the key, you can just say "fuck it" and blow the door up with your grenade launcher.

Anyways, yeah, sounds cool. I've always loved the series.
Obligatory:
This. Even if you know what you're doing, RE4 is a much longer game than most of the rest of the series. Hell, if you know what you're doing, you could burn through most of the games in 3 - 4 hours a pop (RE2 would be per scenario).
Will this be a no-sleep-til-we're-done thing or will you be napping in shifts? I ask because you're totally gonna be punchy by the time you get to RE4 or RE5 without some snoozing.
We'll probably be taking sleeping shifts eventually, but that's gonna be complicated considering I have to work on Saturday (yeah, I know) and my roommate is pretty terrible at the old-school REs (though he's the best person I've seen at RE4 and 5). Plus we'd need to both be awake for the co-op games.
I foresee the way it will happen is that I don't sleep the first night, making it as far as I can into RE2 or 3. Then I go to work, and my roommate and whoever's there does their best to go through 2, 3 and C:V between 8 AM and 5 PM (we've confirmed a guest who at least has some experience playing RE2 and another who's played RE3... I'm probably the only person there who's already beaten the entire series btw), then when I come back, my roommate would probably sleep while I finish C:V, then we go through UC, and then I would sleep while he goes through RE4, then he wakes me up and we do RE5 together.
And yes, I know that doing this I get dramatically more sleep than he does (well, depending on exactly how much he sucks at the old ones). But knowing him, he doesn't need as much sleep as I do anyway. :P
One thing's for sure, we will just crash at midnight on Sunday and then sleep until the very last minute for our 1PM class on Monday (thankfully, we live on campus :P).
So you should all go to my blog then. Because oh man is it ever embedded there.

Hmm, yes. I'll be watching this while also watching the Pitt game in the afternoon, then while watching the Pens game later. That will do.
Tomorrow, noon!
There were some camera tests earlier tonight and it involved quite a bit of screwing around in front of the cam and acting like total dorks.
Come join in!
