From what I've heard this game is really only meant to be played co-op. Or at least that the partner AI is pretty bad and you have to constantly rearrange eachother's inventories.

I'm playing through solo before hitting up coop. At times your partner does some silly stuff, but really it's not an issue for the most part, and defintely not game breaking. The inventory thing is definitely tough in this game, say you want 3 weapons (pistol/shotgun/sniper), with ammo that takes up 2/3 of your inventory space. Mix only having a couple guns in with scarce ammo and it can get pretty intense
This game is so fucking intense. Great succesor to RE 4. If anyone else is still on the first chapter, feel free to hit me up for co-op. Gamertag same as forum name.
I own it. I couldn't bring myself to play more than maybe ten minutes.
I think the introduction is probably the "scariest" part, then it just goes headlong into frantic action for the rest of the game (aside from some tense parts near the end)

True, though I think the village setting as a whole is the "scary" part of the game
but after that, yeah, it's balls-out action the rest of the way
Anyone else play through the humvee bit yet? Shooting dirt biking zombies has pretty much been the biggest highlight so far. All the explosions made it feel like a movie

So you should totally try it past the beginning Larlar, because horror games fuck me up something fierce (like, I can barely play System Shock 2) and I consider RE4 to be an awesome action game, with a horror motif.

I've watched a friend play through pretty much the whole game. I know that if I had been playing alone, the part with the alien thing and the tanks of liquid nitrogen would've given me a heart attack. I'm fine with scary games and movies as long as I'm not in control because I perceive it differently. I can disassociate myself from the danger.
I just can't get past the idea or something scaring me enough that I drop the controller and zombie dogs start eating my character and it's all my fault. I don't want that kind of responsibility.

yeah. i liked the boss battle immediately following, too.

Sometimes I watch youtube videos of all the survival horror games I wish I had the balls to play through, though.

I don't know who to believe! I better play it, based entirely on the serene connotation of the game's title!

It's fun but I can't figure out what weapons to use or how to balance my inventory because I always feel like something is going to sneak up and buttfuck me right when I need the thing I decided not to buy.

That's it
I am buying this game right the hell now
There were so many different deaths in Dead Space
Each more gruesome than the last.

More games need to use that.

Like, I can take Dead Space and all that with no trouble, but SS2 just screws me up bad, even with the old, silly looking models.
I still consider Metroid 2 for the Game Boy to be one of the scariest games I've ever played.
