So I'm having trouble deciding what looks the best for my TV. I own a Panasonic 47" RPTV, which I have had professionally calibrated. Usually, I use the "Standard" video setting, which has the picture in the mid-range and the color temp set to "Normal". It looks nice, but I find myself switching to the "Vivid" setting, which ups the white level and makes the color temp "Cool". To me, this looks more like what I see online and in magazines -- more like what it "should" look like. "Standard" looks kind of subdued in comparison. "Vivid" just looks more impressive. Basically what I want to know is, is there any way I can be sure of what is "correct", or is it all personal preference?
An example is the Wii Channels menu. On "Standard", it looks white, but not the stark white that I would expect. On "Vivid" it is punchy and... well...vivid.
What Kismet said. If you like it, or think it looks better then what's the issue?
I've never understood the whole professional calibration etc etc thing. Adjust the TV until you like what you see and tell everyone else to go stick it up their asses.

I honestly wouldn't worry about it, if Vivid is more impressive and jumps more, go for that.
Realistically, everyone's setup is going to be different due to different televisions(type, brand, model, you name it) and lighting conditions.
For something like that, just go with your gut instinct when you compare them.
